Fear not, Sanvers fans! Alex Danvers' whirlwind romance with Maggie Sawyer will continue in Supergirl Season 3, at least according to executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller. At Comic-Con International in San Diego, the two showrunners offered an update on this fan-favorite relationship, which culminated in an unanswered proposal in the Season 2 finale.

Asked what Alex and Maggie's relationship will look like next season, Rovner said, "We love Floriana [Lima] and we were sad that she wasn't able to come back full-time. We love this relationship we've created and, with that, we're going to be telling a modern-day love story that really honors their relationship that hopefully will resonate and that I think will be very satisfying. Hopefully, she will come join us… the door is always open."

"Maggie is welcome to come back anytime she's free!" Queller added. "We love Sanvers, and we're very sad that Floriana is not available full-time this season."

"It was a very meaningful story to us, and it meant so much to us that it resonated with the fans and we felt like this is a story that still needs to be told about a young woman or a grown woman coming to terms with her sexuality in a very honest and grounded and truthful way," she continued. "We worked really hard to honor that."

Following Mon-El's involuntary departure in the Season 2 finale, Maggie reassured Alex that Kara would be alright. In response, Alex turned and proposed with a simple "Marry me," stunning Maggie. Maggie didn't have the opportunity to answer before the scene cut away, though she did answer with a smile.

Maggie actress will Floriana Lima will appear in a recurring role next season, stepping down from series regular in order to pursue other opportunities. Nevertheless, it seems as though the show has plans for the character, as 24 alum Carlos Bernard was cast in the role of Maggie's father Oscar Rodas earlier this month. As revealed in Season 2, Rodas -- who is a cop like his daughter -- disowned Maggie upon learning she was a lesbian, so his appearance in Season 3 suggests this relationship will be explored.

Returning to The CW on Monday, October 9th at 8 p.m. ET/PT, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as the Girl of Steel, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, with appearances by Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant and Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.
