Supergirl Celebrates Show's Return with New Poster

Next week, The CW's Supergirl returns after a 9-week hiatus, and the official Twitter account for the DC TV show has released a poster with series star Melissa Benoist front and center to celebrate its return.

The series' lengthy midseason break began this past February as part of the network's promise not to run more than four DC TV shows simultaneously. Now that DC's Legends of Tomorrow has concluded, Supergirl resumes its normal Monday night time slot to fill the gap. This decision was not made without controversy, with fans launching a petition for the show to finish its run sooner rather than later when the hiatus was announced.

The midseason break left several major plot threads dangling, as Kara Danvers discovered the true nature of the Worldkillers. Additionally, Katie McGrath's Lena Luthor learned that her friend Sam Arias (Odette Annable) is actually the Worldkiller Reign, unbeknownst to Kara and the rest of the DEO. Saturn Girl (Amy Jackson) and Brainiac-5 (Jesse Rath) also revealed to Mon-El that they kept the true nature of their mission a secret from him.

The returning series has recently been renewed by The CW for a 4th season, which is expected to premiere later this year.

Returning Monday, April 16 at 8 p.m. on The CW, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as the Girl of Steel, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, Chris Wood as Mon-El, Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor, and Odette Annable as Samantha Arias/Reign.
