Supergirl Leaves [SPOILER] In a Coma

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "Reign," the midseason finale of Supergirl Season 3.

Supergirl may have finally met her match. In "Reign," the midseason finale of Supergirl Season 3, the Girl of Steel went toe-to-toe with the Worldkiller. While Kara put up one hell of a fight, the battle left her in a coma, clinging to life.

Supergirl flew into action after Reign attacked Morgan Edge in his office. In a press conference, he described his assailant as being like Supergirl, though he could not confirm her to be Supergirl herself. So, Kara pulled a Reign and burned her symbol into the roof of a building, as the Worldkiller had been doing throughout the episode. The trick worked, with Reign waiting beside the House of El's symbol until the Girl of Steel showed up.

In short order, Reign described her mission: to purge Earth of all its injustices, even if that means razing the planet. They came to blows, with the two Kryptonians crashing through an office Christmas party. Soon, they landed in the streets of National City, where Reign managed to gain the upper hand. Supergirl was left damaged, bleeding and too weak to dodge a final blast of laser vision that landed her on the roof of a building nearby.

On the rooftop, Reign hauled Supergirl up and left her dangling over the edge, mocking her weakness. Reign then dropped Kara, who slammed into the pavement below and passed out. A crowd gathered around Kara's limp body and smashed pavement, including James and Lena, who looked on in horror. The sight made a little girl nearby ask if Supergirl was dead.

Alex and several DEO agents soon ran onto the scene. They rushed Kara back to the DEO, where Alex struggled to keep Kara alive. Nevertheless, Kara's vitals began to plummet. Alex intubated her sister, which stabilized her but left her in a coma. Per the promo for the midseason premiere, Kara will remain in a coma when the show returns.

Returning Monday, January 15 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as the Girl of Steel, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, with appearances by Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant and Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.
