On Sunday's episode of Supergirl, Jon Cryer made his highly anticipated debut as iconic Superman foe, Lex Luthor. The character quickly unveiled his intricate plan, revealing himself as the sinister supervillain fans expect him to be. Now, Lex has just been positioned as the main villain for the remainder of the series' fourth season -- and it looks like he won't be coming alone.

The promo for next week's episode of Supergirl has revealed that the series will finally bring back Kara Danvers' Russian doppelgänger, who will be recruited by Lex for the next part of his evil plan.

In the trailer, Lex Luthor recruits this 'Red Daughter' to his cause as a weapon to wield against Kara Danvers. "I will follow you, and destroy her," she tells Lex, after we see a quick glimpse of her battle suit. The suit appears to be a modern take on the costume Superman wore in the Superman: Red Son comic series by Mark Millar, Dave Johnson and Kilian Plunkett. In fact, the Russian shield on the chest appears to be lifted straight from the comic book page.

Kara Danvers' Russian doppelgänger first appeared in the closing moments of Season 3, where she was discovered by Russian soldiers in the snowy terrains of Siberia. However, while the Season 3 finale teased the character in a big way, she has yet to become a major story focus.

The Red Daughter briefly appeared in the Season 4 premiere, where she was shown to be training in a grey and red suit. We would then see her in the fourth episode, resuming her training. Now however, it looks like the character will finally become the threat she was always meant to be.

Last May, Supergirl producer Robert Rovner first revealed that Season 4 would be influenced by Superman: Red Son. "For fans of the comics, I think they might recognize that the story we want to tell is inspired by the iconic DC Comics’ Red Son, which told an alternate origin story for Superman," Rovner said at the time.

Now, we will finally see the Red Daughter take to the skies.
