Supergirl star Melissa Benoist will be pulling double duty in Season 5 of the CW show, as she'll make her directorial debut.
Entertainment Weekly has revealed that Benoist will direct Episode 17 of the upcoming fifth season of Supergirl. Debuting on CBS, the series jumped to the CW for its second season, officially joining the Arrowverse. Now, TV's Girl of Steel will expand her resume by adding directing to her list of skills. But for Benoist, it's something she's wanted to tackle for years.
“I’ve been wanting to direct since Season 3, but couldn’t last year because of scheduling conflicts, so [star] David Harewood did it first,” said Benoist. “I just felt really drawn to it for a couple of seasons now, just because you know the show so well, and you get to know the character, and the world, and the tone of the show so well that you can’t help but envision certain scenes in a certain way. I want to play with that.”
It won't just be changes behind the scenes either. Benoist revealed today Supergirl will get a new costume in the upcoming season, and it sounds as if the updates will be substantial. Meanwhile, Batwoman will officially join the CW's fall schedule in October, premiering alongside Season 5 of Supergirl. So, while Arrow will soon wrap, the network's roster of DC heroes is hardly diminishing.
Supergirl Season 5 premieres Sunday, Oct. 6 on the CW.
