Supergirl: Manchester Black Arrives in Debut Appearance Synopsis

Mancher Black on Supergirl

Superman villain Manchester Black is set to make his live-action debut in Season 4 of CW's Supergirl,  with actor David Ajala playing him. Now, the synopsis for Season 4's fourth episode, "Ahimsa," teases the character's debut.

While the synopsis of the episode in which Black will make his first appearance doesn't delve too much into the character or his motivations, it sounds like Black's role will tie into the season's focus on aliens as immigrants, as he will have a run in with J'onn J'onzz. Exactly how the two's meeting will affect J'onzz remains to be seen, and it's possible Black is on an anti-alien crusade of his own.

SUPERGIRL"Ahimsa"-(8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-PG, V)(HDTV)

J'ONN MEETS MANCHESTER BLACK-When Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) needs help, Alex (Chyler Leigh) asks Lena (Katie McGrath) and Brainiac (Jesse Rath) to team up. Meanwhile, J'onn (David Harewood) questions his decision to quit the DEO. However, after running into Manchester Black (guest star David Ajala), he realizes there are a lot of ways to help his fellow aliens during this tumultuous time. Armen V. Kevorkian directed this episode with story by Eric Carrasco and teleplay by Katie Rose Rogers & Jesse Kardos (#404) Original air date 11/4/2018.

Created by writer Joe Kelly and artist Doug Mahnke, Black is a British metahuman with telekinetic and telepathic powers. The character leads a group of murderous antiheroes called the Elite, whose violent crusade against evil brings it into conflict with Superman. While several members of the team opted to follow Superman's example, Black remained a thorn in the Man of Steel's side before ultimately killing himself after seeing that his actions had turned him into the very thing he hated. The character was brought back in the pages of Teen Titans during the New 52, and he returned to pester Superman again in the Man of Steel's Rebirth storyline.

How the CW show will handle Black's metahuman powers isn't yet clear. However, it's possible that the character will become a problem for Supergirl and her friends this season.

Airing Sundays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen and Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers.
