Supergirl: Lex Luthor's Plan Comes to Fruition With Latest Death

Supergirl Season 4

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "Red Dawn," the latest episode of Supergirl.

Lex Luthor's plan has moved into its final phase. In "Red Dawn," the latest episode of Supergirl, Kaznia attacked the United States of America. In response, he easily defeated them and killed Red Daughter. Thus, he emerged from the incident a hero, earning the public's support.

After her trip to Kaznia, Lena put together a major piece of Lex's plan. "Lex is planning on invading America," she explained. "Lex has a clone of Supergirl... A copy was made when Supergirl touched the Harun-El. Her name is Red Daughter and Lex has taught her to hate America."

Later, after Otis mentioned Paper Tigers to Ben Lockwood, she realized his endgame. "It's a false flag operation. Lex convinces Kaznia to invade the US, betrays them --" she started, for James to finish, "And then he stops it himself."

"Lex becomes the hero he always thought he was," she concluded.

Unfortunately for Supergirl and her friend, Lex managed to pull it off by the end of the episode. A live statement from the president confirmed that the United States stopped "an invasion of our country by the dangerous rogue state of Kaznia, by none other than Supergirl. These images, taken moments ago, prove that one man single-handedly thwarted the invaders and killed the terrorist Supergirl. That man is Lex Luthor. Mr. Luthor, a grateful nation thanks you."

The images referred to here involve Lex Luthor, wearing his iconic power suit, floating in mid-air with Red Daughter's body cradled in his arms. Her form lies limp in his arms, while blood trickles down her nose. For all appearances, Red Daughter is no more, partially because she wouldn't listen to Kara about Lex's true nature.

Because of his "heroic" actions, Lex may finds himself free from prison -- and more than that. After all, he manages to become President of the United States in the comics. Since Lex's plans have plans, it's possible he hopes to achieve the same goal as his comic book counterpart with this staged act of heroism.

Airing Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen and Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers.
