Supergirllike many of the Arrowverse shows, has created a twist in the classic stories by adding original characters into this universe of superheroes and master villains. Alex Danvers is one of the characters that has been made exclusively for the CW shows.

The character has come a long way since her first introduction. She's journeyed from DEO Agent to the leader of the organization and has now become a vigilante on the streets of National City. Her narrative arc and importance to the show begs the question as to whether she would be a useful element to add to the Supergirl comics in the future!

10 Shouldn't Be Introduced: Too Gimmicky

It might come across as a little gimmicky if the comics added Alex Danvers. If it doesn't feel like an organic addition, there may be those who feel it's a cheap trick to advertise the CW show.

At this stage Supergirl doesn't really need any more advertisement as it's firmly established, but there is a risk that having Alex turn up could feel like a new way to bring the source material closer to the series.

Having said that, there are definite benefits of having closer links between the comics and the TV show. For starters, it may help comic book fans understand the show better, if they have not watched it before.

More to the point though, these changes that have been made could help some people jump from TV to comics for the first time, helping the whole industry in the long run.

8 Shouldn't Be Introduced: Overshadowed

In certain stories, powerless characters can seem a little useless when paired with powered heroes and are up against dangerous foes. Alex Danver's lack of power definitely is a disadvantage.

Because a TV show has space and time to explore the character further, she can work within a larger setting. Having her as a hero on the field next to Supergirl in the comics may mean she is still overshadowed with limited page space available.

7 Should Be Introduced: A New Superhero

Alex Danvers In Her Vigilante Outfit

An exciting aspect of the character is that she's getting her superhero origin on screen every single week, in a way fans aren't familiar with because she is an original character.

This means that a brand new vigilante could be added to the comic books and continue to expand the roster of characters in DC comics. It's always good to have a variety of heroes, both powered and human.

6 Shouldn't Be Introduced: Too Late

It may be a little too late to ret-con this character into the canon of DC Comics, although stranger things have been achieved. In part, this is because Kara is so established without a sister.

It would feel jarring and forced to have this brand new character suddenly appear, but that isn't to say that another reality-altering event could introduce her in the future.

5 Should Be Introduced: Important Dynamic With Kara

One of the most important relationships for Kara in the show is with her sister Alex. She's a key part of the emotional stories that are being told, elevating the narrative each week.

In the comics, Kara can't play on these familial themes in the same way, because there's such a gap in her life. Adding Alex to the comics would enrich the character of Supergirl.

4 Shouldn't Be Introduced: Finding A Role

With Supergirl herself being so powerful that she's essentially a one woman army and a number of other positions filled by the supporting characters, it might be difficult to find a role for Alex in the comics.

Her path was very clear in the show, as she was originally linked to the DEO. The comics could replicate this in some form, but then it feels a little bit like the comics would be copying the show.

3 Should Be Introduced: Representation

Alex Danvers is not only an inspirational character for any young people who want a hero to look up to, but she also is a great representative of the LGBTQ+ community.

Her coming out scene in Supergirl has been heralded as one of the most authentic that has been put to screen, and there's simply not enough diversity in the comics world right now.

2 Shouldn't Be Introduced: Changes To The Character

Often the comics inspire the TV show, but in this case, the Arrowverse series will be influencing the comics. But there will have to be some changes to the character for her to work in the normal DC Universe.

Any changes to the character could really shift her popularity or what she stands for. Therefore, it may be best to leave Alex in the Arrowverse, where her story is already so perfect.

1 Should Be Introduced: Cements The Arrowverse

The Arrowverse is starting to be recognized as the definitive live-action universe for DC, especially after Crisis managed to link many other cinematic universes to the CW shows.

By adding Alex to the comics from the show, perhaps even with her new superhero costume, it would cement the legacy and importance of the Arrowverse for the larger DC brand.
