Supergirl Finds Its Metallo in Frederick Schmidt

"Supergirl" has officially found its Metallo. Entertainment Weekly reports that Frederick Schmidt has been cast as the character, who — in DC Comics' New 52 continuity — stays alive by the power of a Kryptonite heart.

According to the official character description, "When international assassin John Corben is badly injured after taking on both Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and Superman (Tyler Hoechlin), he is reborn by a shadow organization into the Kryptonite-powered supervillain Metallo."

Since he will appear in the first two episodes of the season alongside Tyler Hoechlin's Superman, it seems likely he'll go toe-to-toe with Metropolis' resident Man of Steel. The announcement follows on the heels of a set video that surfaced earlier this month, which showed Superman fighting a man with a chest that glows green like Kryptonite -- just as his character is described.

Starring Melissa Benoist, David Harewood, Chyler Leigh and more, the second season of “Supergirl” is scheduled to premiere on Monday, October 10 at 8 pm EST on The CW, switching networks after a first season on CBS.
