"Supergirl" Finds Its Maggie Sawyer in "The Family's" Floriana Lima

"Supergirl" Season 2 just found its Maggie Sawyer. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "The Family" star Floriana Lima will play the Metahuman police detective in a series regular role.

An earlier report described the character as "an out and proud detective for the newly formed Science Police, which deals specifically with metahuman and alien threats." THR reports that Sawyer "will be a detective for the National City Police Department who takes a special interest in the cases involving aliens."

In the comics, Maggie Sawyer was Batwoman's girlfriend and a prominent member of the Gotham City Police Department. She also worked as the captain of the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit; specifically, she was part of the Science Police, which dealt with metahuman crime. Sawyer is one of the first openly queer characters in mainstream comics.

Lima is known for her role in "The Family," but she has also appeared in "The Mob Doctor," "Allegiance," "Poor Paul" and more.

The second season of "Supergirl" is scheduled to premiere October 10 on The CW, switching networks after a first season on CBS.
