The synopsis for an upcoming Supergirl episode promises a focus on Kelly Olsen as she becomes the hero Guardian.

Season 6, Episode 12, "Blind Spots," will revolve around a disaster that injures several National City residents -- including Joey (Aiden Stoxx), the young boy that Kelly (Azie Tesfai) is looking in on during her day job as a social worker. However, "her horror quickly turns to frustration when she realizes that the hospital is overwhelmed, people are getting sicker, and no one is coming to help -- including Supergirl (Melissa Benoist)." Looking to make a difference, Kelly "embraces her power and fully steps into her role as Guardian." "Blind Spots" will air on Sept. 21.

"Blind Spots" was co-written by Tesfai, making her the first Arrowverse actor to write for one of the shows. "I am so grateful to write for Supergirl's final season," she said. "It's been such an honor to play Kelly Olsen, a BIPOC and queer character in the DC universe. Working in our amazing writers room and co-writing an episode has been an immensely educational and empowering experience. Writing is such a passion for me and I'm excited to continue on this creative journey."

Kelly was announced to take over the mantle of Guardian in March, with co-showrunner Jessica Queller saying, "That's been our plan since the beginning of creating that role. We just wanted to find the right context for it, and so it just evolved really beautifully in the context of the social justice stories we wanted to tell." Her journey towards superheroism began in the most recent episode "Dream Weaver," which culminated in Kelly deciding to become the new Guardian and being presented with a new mask especially made by the prior Guardian, her brother Jimmy.

Additionally, "Blind Spots" will be directed by David Ramsey, who will also reprise his role as John Diggle in the show itself. Diggle has been making guest appearances in other DC TV shows, including BatwomanThe Flash and Superman & Lois in stories that explore his journey following the conclusion of Arrow. In the Arrow finale, Diggle found a box containing a glowing green light, seemingly confirming the long-held fan theory that he was the Arrowverse's version of John Stewart and destined to become a Green Lantern. However, as Ramsey explained in a recent interview, "Whatever was in the box, he refused the invitation of. Let's put it like that. But there are consequences to that."
