Add another DC Comics villain to the cast of CBS' "Supergirl": Italia Ricci, who starred in ABC Family's "Chasing Life," has been cast as Siobhan Smythe, better known to comics fans as Silver Banshee. She'll debut in the role in episode 14 of the show's currently unfolding first season.
"We are so excited to be working with Italia," "Supergirl" executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement. "We've been a fan of her work for years and we cannot wait to see her take on this iconic comic book role."
Here's the official character description: "Italia Ricci is joining the cast of Supergirl as Siobhan Smythe, Cat Grant's latest hire who at first becomes a work nemesis for Kara. But she later proves a more deadly foe for Supergirl when she takes on the mantle of DC Comics villain, Silver Banshee."
Silver Banshee was created by comics legend John Byrne, and first appeared in 1987's "Action Comics" #595. As the name implies, the character's powers include a hypersonic scream, along with super-strength and super-speed.
"Supergirl" airs 8 p.m. Mondays on CBS, and has two new episodes left -- airing Dec. 7 and Dec. 14 -- before a winter break, with fresh installments resuming in the new year.
