The cast of Supergirl shared their heartfelt goodbyes with fans as the CW show approaches its final episodes."Sweet Dreams, Always," wrote Nicole Maines, whose character Nia Nal joined Supergirl in Season 4 and later became television's first openly transgender superhero, Dreamer. Alongside her tweet, Maines released a video of her in the Dreamer costume thanking everyone for their support by declaring, "That's a wrap on Dreamer. Thanks for having me. It's been a dream."RELATED: Supergirl Trailer Heralds the Final Episodes of the Arrowverse Series

Other actors who posted farewells include longtime J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter actor David Harewood and Julie Gonzolo, who debuted in Season 5 as Obsidian Tech owner and CatCo editor-in-chief Andrea Rojas. Harewood, a veteran of Supergirl since its first season, shared an image of a production team member fitting him in the classic Martian Manhunter suit, writing "Thanks Mr Manhunter. That was fun." Similarly, Gonzolo, whose photo featured her dressed in Rojas' Acrata costume, wrote "And that's a wrap… thank you @TheCWSupergirl for these last two years… what a beautiful journey."

First debuting on CBS in 2015, Supergirl was later moved to the CW for its second season onward, where it became fully integrated into the Arrowverse following a Season 1 crossover with The Flash. The show's Season 5 "Leviathan" storyline was briefly put on hiatus by the coronavirus pandemic, but concluded at the start of Season 6 with Supergirl and her DEO allies defeating Lex Luthor's plans at the cost of the heroine getting trapped in the Phantom Zone. While stuck there, Supergirl discovered her still-alive father Zor-El and a 5th-dimesional being named Nyxlygsptlnz, and tried to find a way out with them both, though Nyxly later betrayed Kara. Season 6's mid-season finale ended with Kara and Zor-El being rescued by her sister Alex, J'onn, Nia and their friends, albeit with Nyxly hiding on their ship to escape the Phantom Zone.

In addition to Supergirl, a spinoff series titled Superman & Lois debuted this year on the CW. Following Tyler Hoechlin's Man of Steel and Elizabeth Tulloch's Lois Lane, who first appeared in Supergirl's Season 2 premiere and the 2018 Elseworld crossover respectively, the show saw them and their twin boys move to Smallville, where Clark and Lois discover new threats in Clark's hometown related to the business mogul Morgan Edge.

Supergirl returns Tuesday, Aug. 24 on The CW.
