Since Supergirl is one of the most powerful superheroes of the DC Universe, it is common that writers pit her against all types of foes in order to test the extent of her powers. The Arrowverse is not an exception. Because of this, across the six seasons of her series, the Girl of Steel fought many adversaries, every single one more dangerous than the previous.

This gave the fans the opportunity to see very thrilling battles on the show, all of them filled with dynamic scenes and heart-pounding moments. Although Supergirl didn't always win her battles, she always showed her true strength and especially her resilience, even in the worst of times.

10 Supergirl And Alex Sparring Exhibition At The DEO

Supergirl Alex Danvers feature

Using Kryptonite emitters to make sure it is a fair fight, Kara and Alex practice their hand-on-hand combat skills. Even though they both seem to be at the same level, Supergirl soon takes advantage, but then she hesitates, which prompts Alex to end the fight and scold her for her lack of character.

Granted, this short-lived battle is not the most exciting one. In fact, compared with many others on the show, it is quite boring. However, it is very emotional and it showcases how Kara sometimes feels impotent when she is powerless while reminding the audience Alex may be only human, but she is still very strong.

9 Martian Manhunter Stops A Red Kryptonite Affected Supergirl

Red Kryptonite Supergirl

During "Falling", the sixteenth episode of the first season, Kara is affected by a synthetic version of Red Kryptonite developed by Maxwell Lord. This causes her to become over-confident, arrogant, and, eventually, evil. Finally, full of resentment towards Alex, Supergirl attempts to murder her but she is stopped by J'onn J'onzz, who reveals himself as Martian Manhunter at that moment.

The two of them battle mid-air until the Manhunter from Mars punches the Kryptonian so hard that she falls to the ground, where she is injected with the cure for the Red K. Although this fight is not especially epic, it is the only moment Supergirl fights against Martian Manhunter, probably the only character in the show to match her level.

8 Supergirl Shows Her Skills Against The Red Tornado

Red Tornado on Supergirl

In the Arrowverse, The Red Tornado is a combat android designed by T.O. Morrow to serve as a weapon for the United States Army. Since its main use is to protect Americans against Kryptonians, it is able to match Supergirl's power and so it is a difficult foe for the Girl of Steel. Although it is originally controlled by his creator, once Morrow dies, Red Tornado becomes sentient and unhinged.

In order to defeat him, Supergirl has to use all of her strength, which results in Kara exhausting her solar energy and losing her powers for a couple of days. Even though future seasons of Supergirl show stronger villains, Red Tornado was the first one to give Supergirl a run for her money

7 General Non And Brainiac 8 Lose The Fight Against Supergirl And Martian Manhunter

Supergirl and Indigo

General Non is Kara's uncle and leader of the Kryptonian army ready to conquer Earth. He is joined by Brainiac 8, also known as Indigo, a former prisoner of Fort Rozz that wants to wipe the human race. Their power match Supergirl's, so she teams up with Martian Manhunter to defeat them.

Neither Non nor Indigo have the power to defeat J'onn and Kara, and so both are defeated by the heroes. This is one of the first times Supergirl fights another Kryptonian, and while there are stronger characters in later seasons of the show, Non manages to scare the Girl of Steel, who otherwise tends to feel invincible.

6 Supergirl And Bizarro Go Through Several Rounds Of Punches

BIZARRO Supergirl

Just like in the comics, Bizarro's set of powers are Supergirl's but reversed. While Kara has laser vision and freeze-breath, Bizarro has freeze vision and fire breath. Besides that, they share their invulnerability, superstrength, and superspeed. Because of this, any battle between both superwomen is one for the ages.

During the whole Bizarro arc, Kara and this modified Jane Doe fight three times. In the first two, there is not an obvious winner, but for the last one Bizarro is hit by Blue Kryptonite, which weakens her. There's no way to know what would have happened if Alex hadn't shot her, but Supergirl didn't seem very confident in her ability to defeat her clone.

5 National City vs. Kaznia: Supergirl Battles Red Daughter

SUPERGIRL RED DAUGHTER

Red Daughter was a copy of Supergirl created by accident when Kara uses Black Kryptonite, or Harun-El, to defeat Reign. She is raised in Kaznia, a fictional country located on the Siberian border. Here, she works with Lex Luthor and in a plot to defeat Supergirl and the United States government.

Since she is a copy, Red Daughter has the same abilities as Kara, which makes her invulnerable to Supergirl's powers. In addition, she can harness the Harun-El energy inside her and use it to shock her adversaries. This makes her a more evolved version of Kara, whom she puts in a coma. In fact, Supergirl does not beat her; Red Daughter sacrifices herself to save the Girl of Steel after learning that she is not the real enemy.

4 Supergirl Is The Only One That Can Handle Overgirl

Overgirl in Crisis on Earth-X

Overgirl is Kara Zor-El's Earth X doppelganger, an evil Nazi general who arrives on Earth during the Crisis On Earth X crossover. Since she is Kara herself, her powers are the same as Supergirl. Because of this, the Girl of Steel is the only one that can fight against her. During this crossover, Supergirl and Overgirl fight a couple of times, but soon Earth-1's solar energy becomes too much for Overgirl, who threatens to become an atomic bomb.

Although Kara manages to take Overgirl far from Earth before the explosion, her body cannot handle the energy blast and she falls, only to be saved by Steel, a member of the Legends of Tomorrow. Even if Supergirl's fight against Overgirl is a short-lived one, it remains a fan favorite because it showcases the extent of Kryptonian's powers.

3 Lex Luthor Uses His Lexosuit Against Supergirl

Lex Luthor in the Supergirl Season 4 finale

As the main villain of the series, Lex battles Supergirl more than once, but there's no doubt the most epic fight between them takes place during "The Quest for Peace", the twenty-second episode of the fourth season. Attired in his Lexosuit, the villain attacks Supergirl, who manages to dodge all of the punches.

Finally, Lex uses a powerful Kryptonite ray against Supergirl, but she is saved by Red Daughter, who sacrifices herself to save her. After the Kaznian woman's death, Supergirl acquires the ability to harness Harun-El's energy herself. Looking to avenge Red Daughter, she uses said power and hits Lex's suit with a laser-vision ray, rendering it useless.

2 Supergirl Fights A Brainwashed Superman

Supergirl vs Superman

In order to kill Supergirl, Queen Rhea uses Silver Kryptonite on Superman, which makes the Man Of Steel fight his cousin by making him believe she is the supervillain General Zod, his biggest archenemy. Unable to break him out of the Silver K effects, Supergirl is forced to fight him.

Since they both share the same powers, their fight nearly destroys National City, and even though it seems to reach an impasse, Kara overpowers Kal-El using a mean right hook that renders him unconscious. This battle gave Arrowverse fans the opportunity to see something many DC fans had long been hoping for.

1 Reign Makes Supergirl Bruise And Bleed

Supergirl fights Reign

Without a doubt, the best fight in all of Supergirl takes place during "Reign", the mid-season finale of the third season of the show. In this episode, Kara goes against Reign, a Kryptonian woman that was created as a biological weapon on Krypton and that arrived on Earth around the same time Supergirl did.

During her fight with Reign, Supergirl discovers that the Worldkiller's leader is causing her to bleed, and so she realizes she has finally found an adversary with the power to outmatch her Kryptonian abilities. By the end of the fight, all bruised up and bloodied, Supergirl falls defeated to the ground, leaving National City hopeless.
