The latest Supergirl casting announcement has revealed Louis Ozawa Changchien will play The Hat, confirming that the CW series will adapt the memorable “What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way” Superman story.

First appearing alongside Manchester Black in writer Joe Kelly and artist Doug Mahnke's Action Comics #775, the Hat is a young Japanese man who gains invulnerability and the ability to breathe fire as a result of being merged with a demon. His hat serves as the primary conduit of his power.

Changchien will portray The Hat in the upcoming 13 episode of Season 4, which features the title “What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way.” That episode will see The Hat team up with Manchester Black, Menagerie and The Morae to take on Supergirl and the Children of Liberty, whom Black seeks revenge against for its role in the death of his alien girlfriend, Fiona.

Changchien currently works on Amazon’s Showtime’s Kidding and will star in the upcoming Netflix series Another Life. His credits include Man in High Castle on Amazon, Matador on El-Rey, HBO’s True Blood and starring roles in Predators and the Bourne Legacy.

Known as The Elite, Superman would recurrently meet the powerful vigilantes who questioned Superman’s moral code in regard to the limits it imposed on his almost god-like power. The Elite's attempts to coerce and manipulate Superman into its way of thinking would escalate, endangering both Superman’s personal and professional lives. The conflict, which did not end well for the Elite, was adapted into the 2013 animated film Superman vs. The Elite.
