As befitting any team of teenagers, romance is on the mind of some members of the Legion of Super-Heroes. There have been hints of various romances on the team, but now it appears as if their newest member has just begun one with one of the team founders.

After returning to the present-day DC Universe following years of multiversal traveling with his Grandfather Jor-El, Jon Kent found himself presented with an even more unexpected opportunity: venturing into the far future and joining the Legion of Super-Heroes, a newly formed group of young heroes from the 31st century who were inspired by the Earth heroes of the 21st century. Venturing into his far future, Superboy has been somewhat conflicted about remaining in the time period. While he's fascinated with the time and is more than happy to help them protect the galaxy, Superboy has also been torn by their treatment of his friend Damian Wayne, as well as questions from United Planets President R.J. Brande about his presence risking damage to the time-stream.

However, one of the most consistent voices trying to get him to stay has been the telepathic Saturn Girl. One of the three founding members of the Legion, Saturn Girl was one fo the heroes who ventured to the past and personally invited Superboy to accompany them to the future. Since then, she's been one of the primary people Superboy has spoken with and learned about the future from. It also turns out that he's had romantic thoughts about her the whole time, something Saturn Girl mentions after the Legion is excused from a trial over their recent actions fighting Crav and his armies for Aquaman's trident. But while Jon is initially embarrassed by this revelation, Saturn Girl is quick to tell him that he shouldn't be. Picking up on her signals, Superboy leans in, and the pair share a kiss.

A romance between Superboy and Saturn Girl has been teased for a while now, with Brian Michael Bendis speaking about how the characters would find new romantic relationships over the course of the series than they may have ever encountered in their former continuities. In previous incarnations, Saturn Girl was more romantically drawn to Lighting Lad, which hasn't transpired yet. It makes sense for Superboy to become attracted to Saturn Girl, especially given their extended time together. It's still sweet to see the pair gravitate towards each other. Both characters are inspired and dedicated heroes, with a genuinely optimistic and hopeful outlook. It's natural that they would be drawn to one another, although there's still plenty of questions about any potential future relationship for the pair.

The possibility of future drama still exists, however, especially with Mon-El's surprising annoyance with Superboy throughout their interactions. With the coming Great Darkness soon threatening the entirety of reality, Superboy and the Legion should find whatever happiness they can before the battle truly begins. While the future might be at war soon enough, at least two notable young heroes will get to potentially face it together.
