Catalyst Prime, the new superhero universe from Lion Forge, will debut the first comic book superhero with Down Syndrome in their new title Superb. Written by David F. Walker (Marvel's Nighthawk, Luke Cage) and Sheena C. Howard (author of the Eisner Award-winning Black Comics: Politics of Race and Representation) with art by Ray-Anthony Height, Le Beau L. Underwood and Veronica Gandini, it will be produced in partnership with the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS).

According to The Beat, Lion Forge will set Catalyst Prime in a world where a meteor shower gives people strange new powers. Superb will focus on Kayla Tate and Jonah Watkins, who has Down Syndrome, who are transformed into Amina and Cosmosis. Jonah will use his powers of strength, telekinesis and telepathy to help stop the sinister experiments of the Foresight Corporation, which is investigating super-powered individuals.

"Everyone faces different challenges in life, but those challenges don't prevent us from wanting to be heroes," Lion Forge President Geoff Gerber said in a statement. "Superb is a story about two young people faced with challenges who struggle to understand one another and what it means to be heroes. But, some challenges are more difficult for many of us to understand. Luckily, NDSS is willing to help our creators explain this and to help our readers understand. Nothing could be more important when telling the story of a character who acquires powers that increase his capabilities without taking away his disabilities."

The series will launch in July under the watch of editor Joe Illidge as the third ongoing Catalyst Prime title. Noble launched earlier this month, and the second -- titled Accell -- launches next month.
