Comic books feature a lot of different types of heroes and villains. While these different types offer a ton of variety to these stories there is one type that is very consistent among the panels of these books. That consistency is the super-soldier, which is a concept of character that shows up in various forms in different stories.

This type of solider is exactly what the title says, a soldier with enhanced ability whether the enhancement is caused by the injection of a DNA altering serum, a mutant gene they're born with, or a power-enhancing suit. This list will be looking at some famous super-soldiers that aren't as good at their job as they should be.

10 PETER PARKER (EARTH-1610)

The last person many expect to be classified as a super-soldier is the Amazing Spider-Man as he's usually one of the more lone-wolf characters. However, in many universes, he is exactly that, as he is an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. along with the rest of the Avengers. This goes double for the Peter in the Ultimate Spider-Man comic series.

While Spidey always gets the job done, it definitely isn't that simple. He's a teen and that means constantly screwing up due to teenage problems get in the way. His double life and Nick Fury forcing him into the life of a super-soldier isn't helping out either.

9 THE HULK

Much like Peter Parker, Bruce Banner/The Hulk isn't the first person to ever come to mind when anyone thinks of the term "super-soldier" but he definitely fits the bill. Along with Spider-Man, the Hulk on many occasions has worked under the S.H.I.E.L.D. name along with the other Avengers.

Due to Hulk's unpredictable nature, he has many times added to the problems that he's seeking to end. It's not his fault but it definitely isn't too helpful to be an uncontrollable monster at times.

8 THE JUNIOR AVENGERS (EARTH-12041)

The Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon that was featured on Disney XD features a much different look at a few heroes of the Marvel catalog. Heroes such as Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Nova (Sam Alexander), White Tiger, and Iron Fist have been de-aged in this universe and are basically the Young Avengers of it.

This team is largely a mistake and something Nick Fury would never allow in the main universe, as they end up being a great liability to anything that is above street level crime as seen throughout a lot of the series.

7 DEADPOOL

The Merc With the Mouth began his appearances in the Marvel Universe as one of the greatest mercenaries of all time. However, overtime as Deadpool's personality became more prevalent his reputation dropped more and more.

Deadpool is quite possibly one of the worst mercenaries of all time, going out of business multiple times. This is reflected multiple times when Deadpool's apartment is shown to be a small and trashy living-place while others like Taskmaster are shown to have much better lifestyles, as they can actually finish a mission.

6 WOLVERINE

Wolverine is one of the super-soldiers that is both bad and good at his job. While he is great at the job of being "The best at what I do," which is of course killing, he is pretty bad at his job over with the X-Men which is being a role-model and good partner.

Throughout his career with the X-Men, Wolverine has been the pinpoint of a lot of in-team fighting and at times lets his lone wolf nature take over. However, this fault is one of the best parts of his character and makes him the character fans love, especially when he takes on those faults head-on.

5 MAN-THING

The Man-Thing is the result of a scientist injecting himself with a Super-Soldier serum in order to get rid of it and keep it away from the AIM soldiers that came after it. This S.H.I.E.L.D. scientist ended up being far from the average super-soldier like Captain America.

The Man-Thing was born. This creature is quite possibly the worst outcome imaginable for a Super-Soldier serum, making something that was the opposite of what was intended.

4 SENTRY

Sentry is one of Marvel's early 2000s born superheroes, appearing in the miniseries "Sentry" by Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee. This hero was born Robert Reynolds who actually was a hero with god-like abilities. He was a junkie that took a more powerful Super-Soldier serum that transformed him into Sentry.

While Sentry has some impressive abilities Marvel typically doesn't know how to utilize him. Mostly making him a hero who mostly comes to bring trouble and therefore plot as seen even in the recent series Annihilation Scourge.

3 MCU CAPTAIN AMERICA

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Captain America is definitely a great hero, there was one bit from the recent giant crossover film, Avengers: Endgame that turned off a lot of fans to this new take on the Cap. This part is when Captain America decided to travel through time and go and live a different life.

He came back much too old to continue being the Cap and even maybe ruined the timeline. This was seen as a very selfish act in the eyes of fans that didn't like how Cap decided to stop being a hero and endangered a timeline.

2 SABERTOOTH

Sabertooth is the rival of Wolverine and a fellow participant of the supersoldier program, Weapon X. He made it his goal to destroy his competition which he saw as Wolverine. This lead to him constantly antagonizing him and embracing his savage qualities.

Of course, most of the times that Sabertooth is seen trying to defeat his rival he is defeated in the end. This means that Sabertooth is pretty darn bad at his job.

1 NUKE

Nuke is another case of supersoldier gone wrong. The serum that was created in order to enhance him was a mix of what created Captain America and later Wolverine.

However, instead of creating a superior soldier than these two, Weapon Plus created an out of control and deranged super-soldier. This was due to the mixed enhancing process going awry.
