As Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate nears the end of its DLC, one can't help but take a look at all the characters that have been added. Sephiroth's appearance surprised many who thought that we'd gotten all the Final Fantasy VII characters possible. Pyra and Mythra have also snuck in near the end of the current Fighter Pass. There's one character who still deserves a shot in the game who hasn't gotten it since being shown in the series: Waluigi, the oft forgotten companion of Wario.

Waluigi was originally introduced in Mario Tennis as a partner for Wario. Since then, the tall, purple-clad evildoer has been seen aiding in Wario's schemes numerous times. He's a character most notable for his presence in spin-off titles, frequently appearing in the party games, Kart racers, and others. While he's never been a main villain, Waluigi nevertheless manages to show off a wide variety of abilities through these games. These abilities make him more than able to compete in a game like Super Smash Bros.

With a fondness for bombs and an affinity for Piranha Plants, Waluigi also possesses numerous outlandish skills that would work well. Not only could Waluigi's karting skills and his cartoon villain-esque scheming come into play, but abilities like swimming through the air and spinning to create a mini-tornado could be great to use as well. Even the character's knack for falling short of the spotlight could be included by having comedic fails in his moves or attacks being slightly less powerful. The wide variety of ideas and skills make a great case for his inclusion in the final round.

Not only are his skills up to the challenge, but having Waluigi in the game would fulfill a request many players have had since before he showed up as an assist trophy back in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Players are still enthusiastic about the prospect of a Waluigi appearance, even with his Assist Trophy appearing in both the current and previous games in the series. Many have held onto this hope even as the DLC comes near this ending that he may be the very last fighter of the last pass. Some used the official fighter request that the developers used to get DLC ideas in the last game to suggest Waluigi, but most are content to speak about it on Twitter.  The huge fanbase behind Waluigi may be one of the better reasons to add the character to the game.

Waluigi's status as a side game character and a comedic failure in the Mario universe may make some scoff at the idea of him ever getting near playable status in a game like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but really, he's a glaring omission. Waluigi is one of the core lineup of characters, certainly as deserving of a spot as Piranha Plant or Bowser Jr. Nintendo has never given the lanky villain a chance in a main series title, and a playable appearance in this game may even serve to elevate the character.

Waluigi clearly deserves a spot in the game.  His various skills from other titles show he could work amazingly in Super Smash Bros. The demand for the character certainly hasn't diminished, and it would certainly be a dream come true for many to see him make it at long last. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a once-in-a-lifetime game, and it's only fitting that Waluigi finally gets his chance now.
