Super Smash Bros Ultimate is a relatively title in the long-running series, but despite this, certain top tier characters have risen to the top of the competition and dominated high stakes tournaments. Fighters like Joker, Zero Suit Samus, and Palutena have amazing strengths, and many pro players have noticed this.

However, just like with any fighting game, there are other characters with strong tools that have gone largely unnoticed by the competitive scene. In fact, some of these characters may slowly but surely, sneak their way up on Ultimate's always evolving tier list. Here are five of the game's most slept on fighters.

Min Min

Min Min may seem like an easy pick given her recent release as DLC, but her toolkit is so unique and different that it's hard to not see potential underneath it all. Many players have already written off Min Min for her poor air movement, slow speed and strange moves. She's different from any other character, so it will take some time to adjust to her movement and unorthodox range.

Although Min Min's movement options aren't the greatest, the power and safety of her attacks can be ridiculous. Min Min deals percent incredibly quickly and can essentially edge guard characters off stage from a safe distance with her angled forward smash. Shockingly, she has some fast options up close as well, such as her up smash and her jab. Although Min Min has her flaws, she could become a viable counter pick character.

Marth

Fire Emblem's hero king himself has always had a strong presence in Smash. In Melee and Brawl, he remains a top tier threat. However, in Ultimate, Marth felt a bit off at launch. His unique mechanic has always been his tippers, rewarding the player for spacing a move properly with increased knockback and percent. However, Ultimate Marth's tippers felt much harder to land.

Despite this, Marth was buffed in a recent patch. This made some of his tippers easier to hit. Marth still has fantastic movement, an incredibly well-rounded tool kit and reliable aerial moves. These buffs most likely aren't enough to make Marth a better character than his echo fighter, Lucina. However, they warrant giving him a second look.

Wii Fit Trainer

Wii Fit Trainer is not a character someone would expect to be a strong fighter. However, her second iteration in Ultimate makes her an incredibly powerful character. Wii Fit mostly uses her projectiles to space out her opponent, and many who use her will play by the ledge to force an enemy approach. Of course, playing in such a way already gives Wii Fit a mental edge, as the opponent must consistently initiate the fight. Hilariously enough, she has many tools up close that are ludicrously strong as well.

All of these strengths are further amplified by her deep breathing move, which makes her obscenely strong for a decent amount of time. To activate deep breathing, she does need some distance away from the opponent, but given most Wii Fit players will be playing defensively, it makes it easy for her to find the time to use it. If you get into an altercation with her, it could lead to losing stock at incredibly early percent.

Sheik

Sheik and Princess Zelda.

In Smash for Wii U, Sheik was one of the best characters in the game, but many fans feel she has fallen off a bit in Ultimate. However, through some gradual quality-of-life buffs, Sheik has become a stronger character than she was at launch. Ultimate's Sheik has much in common with her previous iteration. She's a fast, safe and combo heavy character that is meant to drag the opponent across the stage with her fantastic frame data. However, in Ultimate, much of her combo game has been expanded, and parts of it are much more complex.

Sheik in Ultimate is undoubtedly a difficult character to play. However, when a skilled player truly masters everything she has to offer, it's a sight to behold. Top player Void has been a pioneer of Sheik in Ultimate, as he is discovering new combos, ideas and mechanics with the character on an almost daily basis. As it stands right now, Sheik is a solid character in the meta with lots of room to grow.

Diddy Kong

Diddy and Donkey Kong in Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Many players thought Diddy Kong was much weaker in Ultimate, but like other characters, he has been slowly but surely getting significant buffs over the lifespan of the game. In the current meta, Diddy Kong's kit is nothing short of fantastic. Diddy Kong's banana remains a useful tool in the neutral game, as it can force approach, start combos and greatly aid in his ledge trapping. Many of his smaller hitboxes (notably on his forward aerial move) have been buffed to be much larger as well.

Perhaps the strangest buff Diddy received is the changes made to his barrel recovery. They go shockingly far even without a charge. Diddy's best attribute is still his amazing neutral and grabs combos. Recently, top player Tweek has picked up the character as a new main and has won difficult online tournaments against some of the best players with mostly Diddy. It took some time for Diddy to reach his Ultimate prime, but in the hands of a talent like Tweek, it won't be long before people realize how strong this little monkey is.
