Media Rights Capital, the independent studio behind Netflix’s House of Cards, is targeting Ben Stiller for its adaptation of Gary Shteyngart’s bestselling novel Super Sad True Love Story.
The novel finds a bookish man in a tech-driven world who begins a relationship with a young woman who’s complex, if materialistic. It takes place in a not-so-distant future and highlights his rivalry with his boss, who is under pressure from the American government.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series is in late development and the studio has set its sights on casting, despite no network being attached. The studio will bring it to series regardless, as it did with House of Cards.
Shteyngart and Karl Gajdusek (Dead Like Me) will both pen the script and executive produce as co-creators.
