One fan reimagined what The Super Mario Bros. Movie would look like on the Nintendo 64.

On YouTube, King Bob Gaming shared his recreation of Super Mario Bros.' first full-length trailer, which premiered on Nov. 29. The YouTuber previously posted a partial rendition of the reimagined trailer. Still, once the video reached 10,000 likes, King Bob Gaming created a full-length version. The video uses graphics similar to 1996's Super Mario 64 but is set to the original trailer's audio track.

While employing '90s nostalgia, characters like Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Bowser appear. Featured scenes include the titular plumber facing Donkey Kong and Peach and Toad preparing for a fateful battle against King Koopa. Since premiering on Dec. 17, the video has earned over 200,000 views and 13,000 likes. King Bob Gaming even joked about reanimating the entire movie to Nintendo 64 graphics if the reimagined trailer reached 100,000 likes.

Super Mario Bros. Movie Inspires Other Content Creators

Along with King Bob Gaming's fan-made animation, The Super Mario Bros. Movie inspired another content creator. Following Chris Pratt's casting as Mario, Re-Imagined Games spent months developing a realistic Super Mario Bros. game featuring Pratt instead of the classic Nintendo character. "With zero game development experience, I'm learning unreal engine from scratch and picking up any other skills that I can along the way, in an effort to make this a legitimately great action game," the content creator wrote in the video's description.

While Pratt's involvement influenced Re-Imagined Games, some people haven't held back their opinions about the Guardians of the Galaxy actor's performance. A fandub of the upcoming film's promotional video replaced Pratt's voice with Charles Martinet, the original voice actor of Mario. The recreation contains several iconic catchphrases from the video game franchise, including "mamma mia" and "it's a-me, Mario!"

Fans and Actors React to Super Mario Bros. Casting Choices

In addition to unhappy fans, John Leguizamo, who played Luigi in the 1993 live-action adaptation, expressed his disappointment with The Super Mario Bros. Movie's casting decisions. "Too bad they went all white! No Latinx in the leads!" he wrote. Leguizamo also discussed how fans have gone up to him at conventions and confessed to liking the original movie over the forthcoming animated version.

In addition to Pratt, The Super Mario Bros. Movie's cast features Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad. Supporting cast members include Seth Rogen voicing Donkey Kong and Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, DK's grumpy grandfather. Martinet will also make a brief cameo in an undisclosed role.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie releases in theaters on April 7, 2023.
