Sunny News On <i>Heavy Rain</i> Film

Cloudy skies over the potential Heavy Rain live-action film cleared up a bit today as Variety reports that David Milch has signed on to pen the video game adaptation.

Highly popular and critically acclaimed, the PS3 game Heavy Rain puts the player into the shoes of four different character, each in some way connected to the mysterious Origami Killer. The game received countless amounts of praise for its innovative design and gameplay mechanics, which progressed events more in a movie-like, cinematic fashion. The game’s insanely immersive story alters and changes depending on player action, so when it comes to the adaptation, a variety of paths exist. Most critics and fans of the game even compared playing to a movie watching experience, further evidenced by the cutting edge graphics employed by Quantic Dream, the developers of the game.

Creator and executive producer of such shows as Deadwood and NYPD Blue, whose style on both those program accurately reflect that of the Heavy Rain game, Milch joins the project produced by Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne through their Unique Features banner. According to, the scriptwriter plans to start writing a draft of the film once he completes his work on the first season of his new HBO series Luck.
