There's not a lot of links this week - the real world intruded on my on-line life in a shitty, shitty way, so I didn't have much time to surf. I also have to get a post up later or Travis might actually hunt me down and shave my beard, that's how angry he'll be! So I hope you enjoy the stuff I did manage to collect!

COMICS!

Man, if DC manages to collect just some of these in 2014, it will be a good year. The Jamie Delano/Steve Pugh Animal Man stuff (not the best stuff, but pretty weird, and definitely similar to the DCnU AM); a new "deluxe edition" of Dan Slott and Ryan Sook's Arkham Asylum: Living Hell, which is one of the creepier mainstream comics of the past 15 years or so; a third Ed Brubaker Catwoman trade; all the Joe Landsdale/Tim Truman Jonah Hex series; a J. H. Williams III Batman book (which collects even the LotDK story that he wrote, but that's drawn by Seth Fisher, so it's all right); a Grant Morrison Doom Patrol Omnibus, collecting his entire run (damn, that's tempting); and the two gold mines - a trade of issues #1-12 of the John Ostrander/Tom Mandrake Spectre, and Batman by Doug Moench and Kelley Jones, which omits the J. H. Williams III story included in the other collection and some of the "Legacy" stuff, but ends on a cliffhanger, so a volume 2 is surely coming down the pike, right? Holy crap, that's some good stuff getting collected. Make it all happen, DC! And be sure to order them when they're solicited so they don't get canceled!

Mike Sterling pointed out this fun article about back issues and their worth. Don't read it if you're still planning on sending your kids to college by selling your collection!

Over at Robot 6, Corey Blake breaks down 25 years of the Eisner Awards. Interesting reading!

SPORTS!

Last Saturday (the 24th), the Phillies and Diamondbacks played an 18-inning, 12-7 game (Arizona won). In that game, Phillies outfielder Casper Wells may have had the worst game in MLB history. A compelling case can be made!

POP CULTURE!

I didn't watch the VMAs because I'm not, you know, a 17-year-old girl, and I have not even seen the Miley Cyrus performance, but I've read a bit about it. I'm not going to link to all the crap about it, but I did find this article interesting, because while everyone was focusing on the feminist part of the bit, this author wondered why it was so very, very racist. Oh, Miley. A woman I knew in high school let her kids watch it because they were fans of Hannah Montana and was disgusted by it. I mentioned on her Facebook post that Cyrus is 20 years old and hasn't worked for Disney for years, and as little as I pay attention to pop culture, even I knew that she had gone a bit nutty over the past few years. So, yeah, parents - that's on you, I think.

Speaking of Miley Cyrus, here's a tongue-in-cheek article about the real problem with her performance.

The NSA doesn't have a sense of humor about parody T-shirts, in news that shocks pretty much no one. It's still funny.

Here's a list of the 12 best fictional libraries. Sure, why not?

A personal trainer mocks those "before" and "after" selfies that you see so often. It's pretty impressive!

It's been ten years since School of Rock came out (yeah, I know!), and the cast got back together recently, and Entertainment Weekly was there! I always dug the bass player. She was awesome.

Breaking down The worst summer movie weekends of the past 20 years. Man, there are some bad movies on that list, but there are also movies that, while not terrible, just shouldn't have been big releases. They collapsed under the weight of expectations more than anything.

SCIENCE!

Your ancestors didn't sleep like you do, and frankly, that's a good thing. Well, I think it's a good thing. Still, this is pretty cool and explains quite a bit. It does remind me a bit about when Kramer tried to sleep like Leonardo da Vinci, though.

Apparently, Haters really are gonna hate! Who knew?

I do like this list of scientific breakthroughs that killed science fiction, but it just means that science fiction writers will have to be more clever, right?

Sorry about the short list, but that's the way it is! Have fun with the links!
