I haven't had a ton of time recently to scour the Internet, but this week, I did! So let's check out what's going on around the web which is world-wide!

COMICS!

Marvel is releasing graphic novels again - yes, they've been doing the "Season One" ones, but this is not that. Warren Ellis is writing it, which is good, but the Mike McKone art at the link doesn't look particularly excellent. Still, way to go, Marvel!

Here's an interview with Jeff Parker about his Batman comic - you know, the one that's based on the 1960s television show. This book sounds really keen, by the way.

David Brothers and Andrew Wheeler write about the strange page in Uncanny Avengers #5. Both links are worth reading, although I like Brothers' take a bit more. Remender's response to critics seems ... a bit strong. He might have meant it as a joke, or he might have been having a bad day, but if you're working in such a public career, shouldn't you be a bit more thick-skinned?

POP CULTURE!

With the return of Game of Thrones tonight (you are watching, aren't you? oh, of course you are), here's the collected wisdom of Peter Dinklage - not just from GoT, mind you, but from his career - and some facts about the cast you may not know. The dude who plays Robb Stark is dating Jenna-Louise Coleman, which gives me an excuse to post this:

Armond White is one of the best movie critics around, mainly because he's such a douchebag. So of course he wrote about Room 237, the new documentary about The Shining, and blasted the "nerds" who care about such stuff. He's a glorious douchebag, you have to give him that!

I really can't even begin to parse this story: A man wrote an angry letter to another man who was drawing erotic pictures of the first dude's fiancée ... who happens to be Twilight Sparkle. Yes, the My Little Pony character. Just read the story!

Here's a list of "good girls" going "bad" in movies. Their definitions are a bit fast and loose, but it's an interesting list of actresses trying to change their public images.

SOCIAL/POLITICAL ISSUES!

I don't have much to say about the gay marriage issue, because it's inevitable and that's all there is to it. I've been following the cases in front of the Supreme Court only a little, because I just don't think they're all that significant. I mean, it would be nice if the Court ruled against DOMA and Prop 8, but it's not really that important. I did find it interesting that Bill O'Reilly made a pretty good case for gay marriage, even if he doesn't agree with it. O'Reilly might be a windbag, but he's a smart windbag, and he realizes that it's ridiculous for conservatives to claim they want freedom when they're denying freedom to a portion of the population. Way to go, O'Reilly!

This is a story about a teacher who is under investigation for saying "vagina" during an anatomy lesson. Whenever I read stories about things going on in class, my ex-teacher radar goes off. I'm very curious what actually happened here - his kids are defending him, but it also sounds like he might have been a bit too informal. Teachers, especially teachers of kids who are a bit older and can interact with them on a more intellectual level, have to be very careful about how they speak to their students. It's a very fine line, let me tell you.
