I got sidetracked this week, so there's not a lot here, but what's here is fun to check out!

COMICS!

I had never heard of Yale Stewart and JL8 before this week, and now I can't imagine a world in which DC is not throwing money at him and publishing this comic. Check out a sample here!

I'm sure many of you have seen this, but here's Paul Jenkins talking about the "bullying" of creators at DC. He doesn't have great things to say about Marvel, but he's far nicer to them than he is to DC. Many, many people have ripped him for this, but I think the only thing I don't like is his dismissal of Don Rosa's concerns about Boom! It's cool that Jenkins doesn't comment on things he doesn't know about, but he seems a bit cavalier about this. Other than that, it's a very interesting interview. People were having fun with my brief post about Bernard Krigstein's shot at Stan Lee, but it's interesting that more and more creators are talking like this and that a lot of the issues are the same as they were in the late 1950s. Krigstein tried to unionize comic book creators and ran into many roadblocks. One wonders what would happen today if someone tried to do that, in our wildly anti-union atmosphere.

Here's an interesting article about the evolution of digital comics. I'm still not ready to jump on yet, but I still find the way they've developed fascinating.

I linked last week to the Karen Berger profile in the NY Times and Dan DiDio's odd choice of the word "myopic" to describe Vertigo. Michael May parses that quote for us.

POLITICS!

Is Obamacare is a war on bros? Oh, those poor single 25-year-old white men! Life in the U.S. is so hard for them!

You've probably heard by now of the Texas man who was acquitted after shooting an escort who wouldn't have sex with him. Man. The news report about the actual verdict being handed down is pretty hilarious for all the wrong reasons, mainly the reaction of the defendant and his statements after the acquittal. 'MURICA!!!!!

MISCELLANEOUS

One of our long-lost bloggers, MarkAndrew, linked to obsolete words that should never have gone out of style on Facebook. Use them, love them! "Pussyvan" is a good-sounding word, but I also enjoy "lunting," "groak" (which sounds like it should be a marvelously specific German word), "queerplungers" (which is so specific I have to think "queerplunging" was once a major problem), and "resistentialism."

Here's a map made of geotagged tweets, which everyone's favorite comic book mogul, Larry Young, linked to on Facebook. It's not exactly congruent with population, but it's fairly close. They're just pretty cool maps.

What happens when you replace "blues" on album covers with "feels," à la tumblr? Hilarity ensues, of course!

Ken Levine links to 101 best written TV shows, which of course will lead to much gnashing of teeth and rending of garments. I don't have too many issues with the list, mainly because I don't care, but it's still pretty neat to see. Of course, it's invalid because Double Rush doesn't appear anywhere. DOUBLE RUSH WAS THE BOMB, BITCHES!

Chris Mautner writes about Scooby Doo! Mystery Inc. and why it's so darned good. It is, too, although the scheduling is a bit wonky. I just love the episode where Harlan Ellison guest-starred.

Sorry I don't have more, but that's the way it is with brunch. Sometimes you have haggis and black beans (my parents were just in Scotland, and that was on the menu for breakfast at most of the B & Bs where they stayed), and sometimes you only get a small bowl of Bran Flakes. Deal with it!
