Will Smith, who portrayed Deadshot in 2016's Suicide Squad, shared his support for Warner Bros. to release the director's cut of David Ayer's film.

"Let me tell you, there's a whole lot that stayed on the floor for Suicide Squad," Smith said while speaking to Variety. "I'm into it. I love that world. I love what was created in both versions. I absolutely would love to [see it]."

Smith, who is currently an executive producer on a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot titled Bel-Air, hasn't returned to the DC Extended Universe since his appearance in Suicide Squad. However, he has expressed interest in reprising his role as Deadshot in a future DCEU project.

Smith isn't the first Suicide Squad star to share their support for an "Ayer Cut" release. Jared Leto, who portrayed the Joker in the film, previously stated that a director's cut of Suicide Squad is what streaming services were designed for. When asked about the possibility of Warner Bros. releasing the cut, Leto said, "Absolutely! Why not? Why wouldn't they? Why wouldn't they? I mean, that's what streaming's for, right?" Ayer responded to Leto's statement on social media, saying, "Exactly what streaming is for. If you own IP and you have a mandate to monetize it from your shareholders that's exactly what you do."

Before its release in 2016, Suicide Squad underwent multiple reshoots and cuts, with Warner Bros. demanding major changes to the film's overall tone and style. Among the changes included the removal of a romantic subplot between Smith's Deadshot and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, as well as a majority of the Joker's role. Following the success of a fan-led campaign to #ReleasetheSnyderCut, which ultimately saw the release of Zack Snyder's version of Justice League, fans began to call for the studio to #ReleasetheAyerCut of Suicide Squad as well.

The film received a negative response from critics overall, and Ayer would later speak out against Warner Bros., saying that the version of Suicide Squad released in theaters was "not [his] movie." "I put my life into Suicide Squad," he said. "I made something amazing - My cut is [an] intricate and emotional journey with some 'bad people' who are shit on and discarded (a theme that resonates in my soul). The studio cut is not my movie."

He continued, "[My] cut is not the 10 week director's cut. It's a fully mature edit by Lee Smith standing on the [incredible] work by John Gilroy. It's all Steven Price's brilliant score, with not a single radio song in the whole thing. It has traditional character arcs, amazing performances, a solid 3rd act resolution. A handful of people have seen it. If someone says they have seen it, they haven't."

Currently, Warner Bros. has no plans to release the "Ayer Cut" of Suicide Squad.
