According to director James Gunn, The Suicide Squad's Weasel was partly inspired by one of the more peculiar characters from the Bloom County comic strip.Following its exclusive debut in theaters with Godzilla vs. Kong, Gunn posted The Suicide Squad's green band trailer to his Twitter account. When one of his followers responded by saying the film's version of Weasel reminds them of the Stoned Fox meme, Gunn admitted "The inspiration is more this guy," posting an image of Bloom County's Bill the Cat.RELATED: The Suicide Squad TV Spot Offers a New Look at Starro

Created by Berkeley Breathed, the Bloom County comic strip satirizes U.S. politics and pop culture through the lens of a fantastical small-town in Middle America populated by humans and talking animals. Among the town's citizens are Bill the Cat, a typically unkempt, wide-eyed orange tabby cat who, for a long time in the comics, never really spoke -- save for making either an "Ack" or "Pbthhh" sound -- and barely seems to notice what's going on around him. Bill made his Bloom County debut on June 13, 1982 and was designed to serve as a parody of Garfield, whose own comic strip launched in the late 1970s.

DC Comics' Weasel/John Monroe first appeared in 1985's The Fury of Firestorm #35. A lonely student mocked by his peers at Stanford University as being weasel-like, John later became a professor at Vandemeer University, where he ended up working alongside a number of his fellow Stanford graduates. Perceiving them as threats to his career, John adopted the moniker Weasel and began hunting his former peers, using a fur costume equipped with clawed hands to murder them. He was eventually arrested and later became a member of the Suicide Squad during a mission to rescue Hank Hall/Hawk. He is played by James Gunn's brother and frequent collaborator Sean Gunn in The Suicide Squad.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Michael Rooker as Savant, Flula Borg as Javelin, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Mayling NG as Mongal, Peter Capaldi as The Thinker, Alice Braga as Solsoria, Sylvester Stallone as King Shark, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Nathan Fillion as TDK, Sean Gunn as Weasel, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, John Cena as Peacemaker, with Steve Agee, Taika Waititi and Storm Reid.
