Suicide Squad, Unbreakable 2, Justice League: December 21st Comic Reel

According to producer Dan Lin, the project is on hold. “[It] has a script from Justin Marks,” he tells Collider. “[But] I think Warner Brothers wants to finish their A-list stories first and then we’ll talk about stories like Suicide Squad.” That’s a shame. I’d love to see Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and the Wall on screen sooner rather than later.

Release date: TBA

Samuel L. Jackson is not one to mince words. While talking with The Huffington Post about his upcoming “Django Unchained,” the topic turned to the long lost sequel to “Unbreakable.” Jackson has a pretty solid theory on why it never came about. “You’ll have to ask the brilliant director who wrote it and didn’t do the rest of them,” says the actor. He suggests the critical reaction had an impact on director M. Night Shyamalan’s plan for a trilogy. “‘Unbreakable’ also didn’t have the numbers of ‘I see dead people,'” he adds. “That was a problem for him … for his ego and the studio, also. ”

Still battling rumors that he passed on a chance to direct the DC Comics superfilm, Ben Affleck clarified for Hitfix just how his brief brush with the League actually went down. “It’s one of those things where the closest I came was some people talked to me about it like at a meeting,” he explained. “They were like, ‘Here’s the stuff we’re doing,’ you know? ‘Here’s what we’re looking at.’ That kind of thing. And they suggested it. But I don’t think there’s a script. I don’t think there’s anything.” Since Affleck — as a director — has become an asset to Warner Bros, I can easily see him sitting down with development execs and looking at ideas. I’m sure every director working with the studio has been told, “and we have ‘Justice League.'” They just need one to become excited about it.

Release date: 2015

Director Joseph Kosinski offers IGN a close look at the trailer for his upcoming film. It’s ten minutes of commentary, so you might want to get a sandwich:

Meanwhile, Superhero Hype notes the animated adventures of Peter Parker return to Disney XD in the new year with a one hour special before resuming its regular Sunday timeslot. According to the press release, “The thrilling two part premiere introduces fans to two of Spider-Man’s most iconic villains-the Lizard (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker of Disney’s “Phineas and Ferb”) and Electro.” I could make a pun here, but I think I’ll refrain.

Airdate: January 21, 2013

Hey Reelers, Erik Amaya with you for a special pre-holiday edition of the Comic Reel. I’ve also noticed that it’s the 21st of December 2012. I remember the first time I heard about that date in the pages of Grant Morrison’s “The Invisibles” and the the impressive way that series wrapped up on its fictitious morning of December 22nd. I then turned back to the first page of the entire series and got the shock of my young life. It’s worth looking at yourselves if you have the series handy. Trust me.
