The new trailer for Warner Bros. and DC Films' The Suicide Squad naturally attracted a lot of attention. However, some of that attention is by way of angry DC Extended Universe fans who refuse to believe Idris Elba's Robert DuBois/Bloodsport could put Henry Cavill's Superman in the intensive care unit.In the trailer, it's established early on that Bloodsport is in prison for shooting Superman with a Kryptonite bullet, which landed the Man of Steel in the ICU. It didn't take long for fans to express their disbelief and dissatisfaction.RELATED: Suicide Squad's King Shark Was More Challenging to Create Than Rocket or Groot

Soon after, writer/director James Gunn shared a page from John Byrne's Superman to make it clear that Superman ending up in intensive care at the hands of Bloodsport is, in fact, DC comics canon. Injustice and Suicide Squad writer Tom Taylor followed suit, though not even this could convince some fans of the DCEU Superman.

Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Michael Rooker as Savant, Flula Borg as Javelin, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Mayling NG as Mongal, Peter Capaldi as The Thinker, Alice Braga as Solsoria, Sylvester Stallone as King Shark, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Nathan Fillion as TDK, Sean Gunn as Weasel, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and John Cena as Peacemaker, with Steve Agee, Taika Waititi and Storm Reid. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max Aug. 6.
