Yet another actor from 2016's Suicide Squad has spoken about the unreleased director's cut of the movie.

Scott Eastwood, who played GQ Edwards in the movie, explained how director David Ayer pitched the story to him. "He basically was like, 'Come on this journey with me. I'm going to make you look like a badass. I'm going to make your character pop," Eastwood told Insider. "I didn't even know what the character was at the time." This focus on his character led to more screen time in Ayer's cut of the movie. "I have talked to David, and I know my character got a lot more love in the Ayer Cut," the actor added.

Production of Suicide Squad saw multiple reshoots, and several scenes were left on the cutting room floor. Warner Bros. was reportedly unhappy with the tone and style of the movie delivered by Ayer and made some major changes, including reducing the screen time of Jared Leto's Joker. Several images and reports of edited scenes have been released, such as a newly revealed photo of Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn in a wedding dress. All of these details have led to a fan campaign seeking to release Ayer's cut of the movie.

This isn't the first DC movie to have fans and actors calling for the release of the director's cut. Justice League had to change directors during production, which resulted in the movie taking a different tone to the one planned by original director Zack Snyder. After a campaign by fans, Zack Snyder's Justice League was released on HBO Max in 2021, with additional material filmed to complete his vision.

Ayer has addressed the Suicide Squad changes himself, saying categorically, "The studio cut is not my movie." According to Ayer, the director's cut that exists is "a fully mature edit" with a "brilliant score" and "not a single radio song in the whole thing." He also highlighted the strong performances of the cast and the "solid third act resolution."

Will Smith, who played Deadshot in Suicide Squad, has also voiced his support for the release of the Ayer Cut. "Let me tell you, there's a whole lot that stayed on the floor for Suicide Squad," Smith said. "I'm into it. I love that world. I love what was created in both versions. I absolutely would love to [see it]." Leto also commented on the Ayer Cut, suggesting it could be released on a streaming service, just as Zack Snyder's Justice League was. "Why wouldn’t they?" Leto said when asked. "I mean, that's what streaming's for, right?"

Suicide Squad is available to stream on HBO Max.
