WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Suicide Squad #8, on sale now from DC Comics.

The Suicide Squad has gained its fair share of rightfully earned notoriety by forcibly recruiting some of the biggest criminals in the DC Universe to work in the shadows against bigger threats. And with Task Force X stranded in Hell on a mission of grave importance, Amanda Waller has decided to break out the big guns and give her team some much-needed support, not as much to save their lives but to ensure that the mission is successfully completed. However, the powerful supervillain that arrives in Hell to save the day is Green Lantern Kyle Rayner's own personal nightmare, Major Force.

Waller sent the Suicide Squad to Hell in an effort to recover the Rock of Eternity, the source of Shazam's magical powers, as it had been mysteriously sent to the fiery netherworld at the start of the Infinite Frontier era. However, Task Force X discovered a cadre of supervillains waiting for them in Hell, ready to exact vengeance after previously developing a vendetta against Waller and her manipulative agenda during their lives. With the Squad running the risk of being overwhelmed, Waller shares with new recruit Ambush Bug her true, intended target for extraction in Hell while sending in Major Force to decisively turn the tide of battle in Suicide Squad #8, by Robbie Thompson, Eduardo Pansica, Dexter Soy, Julio Ferreira, Marcelo Maiolo and Wes Abbott.

Major Force Suicide Squad

Major Force was originally created by Cary Bates, Greg Weisman and Pat Broderick as an antagonist for Captain Atom, debuting in 1988's Captain Atom #12. Gaining his powers from the same military experiment that made Nathaniel Adam a superhero, Clifford Zmeck was bonded to even more of the strange, irradiated extraterrestrial metals that fused to Adam's body. A murderous military officer that underwent the experiment to receive a full pardon, Zmeck emerged from the Quantum Field under the supervillain moniker Major Force and eventually set his sights on Kyle Rayner shortly after the young man became the last Green Lantern.

Working for the nefarious Quorum Organization, Force brutally murdered Kyle's girlfriend Alex DeWitt as part of his employer's bid to obtain the Green Lantern Power Ring for himself. Kyle and Guy Gardner would regularly fight Major Force following this infamous incident, with Force occasionally still tasked by the government to handle its more unsavory work. At one time, it appeared that Captain Atom had destroyed his old enemy by completely draining his energy, but Major Force eventually resurfaced to menace the DCU once again in his usual, brutish fashion.

Suicide Squad Major Force 1

It's unclear if Waller has strong armed Major Force into working for her or if he was brought on as an extension of his government service. Either way, Force's infamous reputation proceeds him, with the Suicide Squad immediately and rightfully labeling him as a misogynist, even if he did just save their lives and help them escape from Hell.

Major Force has always been something of a ticking time bomb and now, in the company of fellow deviants and villains, it's only a matter of time before Force inevitably lashes out and reminds everyone that he is not one to be controlled.
