Warner Bros.’ adaptation of “Suicide Squad” may not be winning over critics — or Jared Leto, for that matter — but it continues to shatter box office records. It already had the best-ever performance for a Monday in August, and now, it’s surpassed the half-billion mark.
According to a Warner Bros. press release, the movie’s total gross is now sitting pretty at $509 million — with domestic receipts coming in at more than $238 million, supplemented by a an international figure of $271 million. Keep in mind the film hasn’t even opened in several major markets yet.
“We’re thrilled with the huge numbers on ‘Suicide Squad,’ and to be coming out of an already highly successful summer with such a big win for our slate,” Sue Kroll, Warner Bros.’ President, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution, is quoted in the press release. “The film is in position for another terrific weekend as our overseas expansion continues.”
It’s just business as usual for what’s shaping up to be the most polarizing blockbuster of the summer. One thing’s for certain though: love it or hate it, it looks like “Suicide Squad” isn’t leaving theaters anytime soon.
