Rocksteady Studios, the creators of the Batman: Arkham franchise, has unveiled the first explosive trailer from the much-anticipated Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, at DC FanDome.

Reports surfaced this past June of Rocksteady claiming domain names affiliated with the team, and now earlier this month, the video game developer has tweeted a teaser image featuring the Man of Steel ominously in the crosshairs.

A Suicide Squad video game was first announced at Comic-Con International: San Diego in 2010. At the time, the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment project was described by then-DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns as "hardcore violent." However, while work was apparently underway on the game, it fell into obscurity and was swiftly overshadowed by Arkham City and Arkham Knight.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Joaquin Cosio, Nathan Fillion, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Idris Elba and Michael Rooker. The film arrives in theaters Aug. 6, 2021.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is slated for release in 2022.
