Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League has been in development for a while now, but it's still among the most highly-anticipated upcoming video game releases. Developed by Rocksteady Studios, the creators of the Batman: Arkham trilogy, a new trailer for the game was showcased at DC FanDome, alongside a bevy of other announcements. Five years after the company's last title, Batman: Arkham VR, Kill The Justice League marks the return of Rocksteady Studios, as well as the first ever Suicide Squad video game.

A "hardcore violent" Suicide Squad game was previously announced by DC Comics in 2010 but was reported to have been canceled in 2016. Since its cancellation, though, Suicide Squad has seen a massive rise in popularity, thanks to the box-office success of David Ayer's 2016 film, the critical success of James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, and positive reception towards the Peacemaker series. Kill The Justice League looks to continue that success and remind gamers of what makes Rocksteady so special.

What We Know About Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Rocksteady has yet to show any proper gameplay from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. So far, it has released story-focused trailers, establishing the characters and the location of Metropolis. We know the game will take place in the Batman: Arkham universe, but it's unclear if the game will play similarly to those titles. Furthermore, while the Batmobile was visible in the trailer, it's not yet clear if the game will feature Bruce Wayne as he appeared in the previous titles.

So far, all that's been said about Kill the Justice League's gameplay is that it will be a "genre-bending" action-adventure shooter set in an open world, much like the later Arkham titles. The characters featured in the trailer, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and King Shark, will all be playable, and players will have the option to play the game in single-player or multiplayer. It will feature four-player cooperative play, with each player controlling one member of Task Force X. When played solo, gamers will be able to switch between each character on the fly, while other characters will be controlled by AI.

When Will the Suicide Squad Game Release?

Though Warner Bros. and Rocksteady said for a while that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League would release in 2022, the game has since been delayed to 2023. Though no specific reasons were given, director Sefton Hill said in a tweet announcing the delay "that time is going into making the best game we can."

Unlike WB's other upcoming titles, Kill the Justice League is set to be a next-generation console exclusive, releasing on just PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rocksteady and WB will surely hope that Sony and Microsoft can overcome the next-gen stock issues that have plagued the new consoles for the past year. If they can, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will likely be a huge system seller for the ninth-generation consoles.
