Jared Leto, who played The Joker in Suicide Squad, is one of the many voicing his support for writer/director David Ayer and the #ReleaseTheAyercCut movement.

"It's always hard when you make these movies because it's such a pressure cooker, there's so many decisions that have to be made in a short amount of time, and my hats off to the directors, producers, and the studios," Leto told Variety while discussing Ayer's unrealized vision. "It's not easy. You never start with something that's perfect; it's a race to make it as good as you can in a really short amount of time, so I get it, and having another swing at things — I'm sure we could all use that."

Ayer has long been vocal about his disappointment with the theatrical cut of Suicide Squad, which suffered from heavy meddling by Warner Bros. and ultimately strayed away from his intended vision. As for his original plans, the film would have included such elements as a Joker-led assault on Arkham Asylum, a Joker/Task Force X showdown, a larger role for Katana and much more. He's also cited BvS and Deadpool's effect on Suicide Squad in the past, saying, "After the BVS reviews shell shocked the leadership at the time, and the success of Deadpool - My soulful drama was beaten into a 'comedy.'"

While Ayer's version of Suicide Squad never came to light, the success of the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign has resulted in renewed interest from fans to see the type of film that was alluded to in the famed Suicide Squad Comic-Con International: San Diego trailer. However, it remains unclear if the Ayer Cut will get the Snyder Cut treatment.
