The Suicide Squad director James Gunn shared an update about the film on his Instagram.

Gunn posted the image below with the caption, "My beautiful storyboards are back #TheSuicideSquad." The photo features Gunn sitting at a desk with an index card full of doodles. It is hard to discern what is on the index cards, but the post does show the director has some plans in order for the film.

There hasn't been much released about the Suicide Squad sequel, but we do know that Margot Robbie, Viola Davis and Jai Courtney will all reprise their roles from the first film. Will Smith, who played Deadshot in the first film, will not appear. It is also rumored that Thor: Ragnarok's Idris Elba and WWE star John Cena will have roles in the film.

After James Gunn's firing from Guardians of the Galaxy 3, he signed on to write and direct the Suicide Squad sequel. He was eventually rehired as by Disney, but will continue his directorial duties on Suicide Squad.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters on August 6, 2021. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 does not yet have a release date.
