While some fans were excited to hear rumors of a possible Zatanna cameo in The Suicide Squad, James Gunn has clarified that the Mistress of Magic won't appear in the film.
"I have nothing against Zatanna, but I have no idea where some of this stuff comes from," Gunn told a fan who asked about a Zatanna cameo. "I never even thought of including her in #TSS (nor many of the other characters I keep hearing are in the film)."
In his tweet, Gunn also warned that many of the rumors about The Suicide Squad are untrue. Plenty of characters have been rumored to appear in the film since it was first announced, including the Joker, Nightwing and Deathstroke.

I can’t comment on every rumor but just know many aren’t true. !sromur yawA https://t.co/fPTB510I77— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) September 11, 2019
Making her first appearance in 1964's Hawkman #4, Zatanna Zatara is one of DC's most popular magic users. The character was created by Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson. She was portrayed by Serinda Swan in an episode of The CW's Smallville.
Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters Aug. 6, 2021. Several cast members from 2016's Suicide Squad are expected to reprise their roles, including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang. Also joining the cast are Idris Elba, David Dasmalchian and Daniela Melchior.
