WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Suicide Squad #11 by Tom Taylor, Bruno Redondo, Adriano Lucas and Wes Abbott, on sale now.

In the latest Suicide Squad comic series, the titular team has been on the run from who they thought was Ted Kord for a long time. The truth, however, was that the villainous Black Mask was only posing as the light-hearted businessman and Justice League hero, and he concocted a devious plan to destroy the island of Badhnisia to claim the oil reserve underneath it for himself. The Revolutionaries, Deadshot and Harley Quinn all went into battle against the villain and, unfortunately, their attack resulted in Floyd Lawton's tragic death.

But this isn't the only loss the team suffers before it's all said and done. In Suicide Squad #11, the team finally defeats the Black Mask, but when the mission is over, Harley Quinn, a longtime member of the team, finally calls it quits.

Suicide Squad Harley Quinn Quits

Harley Quinn first became a member of the Suicide Squad during DC's New 52 reboot in 2011. She spearheaded the new team alongside Floyd Lawton, and they went on many missions together. The roster of the Suicide Squad would keep on rotating throughout the years, but Deadshot and Harley were as close to mainstays as the team could get. They even remained on the team after the DC Rebirth relaunch in 2016, and they continued to be the two main members of the Suicide Squad for the years that would follow.

But their nine-year tenure has finally come to an end. Indeed, Floyd Lawton was murdered by the Black Mask in Suicide Squad #9. Now, with Suicide Squad #11 -- the final issue of this iteration of the series -- Harley Quinn quits the team.

In the final issue of Suicide Squad, the Revolutionaries succeed in defeating Black Mask and thwarting his plan to destroy Badhnisia. Once the day is won, the Justice League arrives to clean up the mess and although Batman wants to take the Squad in, the president of Badhnisia insists he is out of his jurisdiction. As far as she is concerned, the Suicide Squad are heroes.

The Revolutionaries are now free from Black Mask, and they can officially start fresh. But while they all celebrate and get ready for whatever comes next, Harley Quinn heads off on her own. Part of her wishes she could stay with her new friends, but she instead takes on the grim but important task of visiting Zoe Lawton, Deadshot's daughter. She stays by her side while the young girl copes with the death of her father.

For a moment, it looks like Harley is simply visiting Zoe, but she makes it clear she intends to stick around as long as Zoe needs her, as for the Revolutionaries quickly head off on their next mission.

Therefore, the Suicide Squad as we have come to know it ever since the New 52 is no more. With Deadshot dead and Harley Quinn gone, the team has just lost its two most prominent members dating back to nearly the last decade. Thanks to her presence on the team in the DC Extended Universe, Harley is easily the team's defining modern member, and her departure alone is a huge change for the tea, and for the franchise itself. Now, it looks like Harley will be taking some time for herself as she settles into her new Gotham City home and plans her next move.
