'Suicide Squad' Director Teases 'Something Will Happen' Today

"Suicide Squad" director David Ayer has teased "something will happen" today, fueling online speculation that fans could soon get their first look at Jared Leto as The Joker in the Warner Bros. film.

On Saturday, Ayer tweeted a photo of sets under construction on a Toronto sound stage before pausing to answer a couple of questions about the movie. Asked to described Leto's Joker in one word, the director replied, "Majestic"; questioned as to whether "Suicide Squad" is set in the same universe as "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," he responded, "Yep. And Zack's even executive producing."

Those were followed Sunday night by the more cryptic message, "Something will happen. Tomorrow," delivered shortly before Leto, newly arrived in Toronto, posted this photo:

Hours later, the Oscar-winning actor tweeted, "I miss my beard already."

Although "Suicide Squad" isn't scheduled to begin filming until April, those tweets certainly hint that Leto is in Toronto for makeup/screen tests. Whether Ayer will offer fans a peek at that process -- of Leto's physical transformation into "this beautiful disaster of a character" -- remains to be seen, of course.

Opening Aug. 5, 2016, “Suicide Squad” also stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Boomerang and Viola Davis as Amander Waller, with Joel Kinnaman reportedly in negotiations to play Rick Flag.

Update (7:54 a.m.): Ayer has posted a photo of what we can only assume is Leto about to meet with a pair scissors:
