Part of the "Suicide Squad" team, director David Ayer and actor Will Smith, have partnered with fellow actor Joel Edgerton and screenwriter Max Landis for a new project titled "Bright."

According to Deadline, "Bright" is a contemporary cop thriller with fantastical elements. Ayer and Landis are rumored to have co-written the script, which has not been picked up by a studio yet.

If the project is picked up, Will Smith ("Men in Black," "Concussion,") and Joel Edgerton ("Black Mass," "The Gift,") will co-star in the film. Ayer's previous cop thriller, "Training Day," landed stars Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke Academy Award nominations, including Washington's win for Best Actor.

David Ayer and Will Smith's current film, "Suicide Squad" opens in theaters later this year, on August 5.
