Following the news that Zack Snyder's Justice League would release on HBO Max, Suicide Squad fans began campaigning in earnest for a David Ayer director's cut. Recently, it was reported that Warner Bros. is talking about possibly releasing the Ayer Cut on HBO Max as well, however, this has not been officially confirmed. That said, Ayer himself confirmed the existence of his cut and has gone on to tease many elements of Suicide Squad that were not shown in its theatrical version, including a Joker/Suicide Squad battle and a different appearance for the film's villain, Enchantress.

While Suicide Squad was successful at the box office, it received mixed reviews from both critics and audience members. Meanwhile, the film would spawn both 2020's Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) and James Gunn's upcoming soft reboot, The Suicide Squad.
