Much like the famed Zack Snyder cut of Justice League, there is also a cut of 2016's Suicide Squad which features writer and director David Ayer's original vision for the film, and fans are now clamoring for its release. One aspect of this version that Ayer recently confirmed is that Suicide Squad member El Diablo survived, as opposed to his death in the theatrical cut. In response to a fan on Twitter asking him if El Diablo died in his version, Ayer replied, "No he lived." When another user asked him why El Diablo was killed off, Ayer responded, "The argument was because he killed his family he had to die. It was either that or the backstory of his family would have been cut. Sometimes it’s just triage to protect against a worse outcome."RELATED: Suicide Squad Was Never Going to Be Rated-R, Says Ayer

In the climax of Suicide Squad, El Diablo (Jay Hernandez) assumed a more demonic form to battle Enchantress' brother Incubus, then allowed himself to be caught in an explosion caused by a bomb, sacrificing himself for the rest of the team.

Several characters from Suicide Squad will appear in James Gunn's upcoming DC Extended Universe (DCEU) film, The Suicide Squad. However, El Diablo has not been mentioned.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Michael Rooker as Savant, Flula Borg as Javelin, David Dastmalchian, as Polka-Dot Man, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Mayling NG as Mongal, Peter Capaldi as The Thinker, Alice Braga as Solsoria, Steve Agee as King Shark, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Nathan Fillion as TDK, Sean Gunn as Weasel, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, John Cena as Peacemaker, Taika Waititi and Storm Reid.
