Suicide Squad 2 was reportedly scheduled to begin filming this year but has been delayed in favor of Warner Bros. ramping up production on a Birds of Prey ensemble film instead. However, that hasn't stopped production on the sequel, which now has a completed draft of the script.

"We have finished our draft and I’m really proud of it," co-writer Todd Stashwick told Discussing Film. Stashwick was vague about Suicide Squad 2 when asked for details about it, referring to the movie as "a sequel to the first film." However, he did mention that the production's intention "is to tell an exciting story, deepening these characters."

In June, Stashwick and David Bar Katz signed on to pen Suicide Squad 2 alongside director Gavin O'Connor. The movie will feature the return of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Will Smith as Deadshot. the role of Suicide Squad character Harley Quinn. Additionally, a spin-off film featuring Jared Leto’s Joker has been reportedly greenlit by Warner Bros.

The modern incarnation of the Suicide Squad was created by writer John Ostrander and artist John Byrne first appearing in the third issue of 1987’s DC crossover event Legends. Since then, the team has received their own ongoing series with various villains from the DC Universe drafted by the government to save the world.

There is currently no release date for Suicide Squad 2.
