DC Comics' Suicide Squad is being relaunched under the Infinite Frontier banner. The Burbank-based publisher has released an official preview of issue #1 -- which arrives in just a few days on March 2 -- offering a sneak peek at what readers can expect from this fast-approaching new era for Task Force X.

Infinite Frontier's Suicide Squad sees none other than Peacemaker take over as field leader of Task Force X, with Amanda Waller returning to her role as director. Issue #1 kicks off the "Assault on Arkham" story arc, in which Waller sends the Squad into Arkham Asylum to try and recruit Talon, an assassin for the Court of Owls. Meanwhile, Waller tries to bring Superboy into the fold as well. The most recent Suicide Squad title by Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo ran for a total of 11 issues from late 2019 to early this year. This new incarnation sees the team of writer Robbie Thompson and artist Eduardo Pansica take the helm.

  • Things have changed for Task Force X. As Peacemaker takes over as field leader, there will be no more avenging or defending for the government’s top-secret task force of killers, thieves, and criminals. Amanda Waller—now back in control of the Squad—sends a new Squad into Arkham Asylum to “recruit” the deadly Court of Owls assassin Talon while she interviews another new candidate: Superboy.

Peacemaker taking center stage for DC's new Suicide Squad series isn't exactly surprising, seeing as how the character is preparing to make his live-action debut in a big way. Played by John Cena, Peacemaker will appear in director James Gunn's upcoming film The Suicide Squad, which is set for release this August, before spinning out into a Peacemaker solo series, which is expected to premiere on HBO Max in early 2022 and will see Cena reprise the role. What's more, the new comic's first arc shares a title with the 2014 animated film Batman: Assault on Arkham, which itself centers around the Suicide Squad.

Written by Robbie Thompson and illustrated by Eduardo Pansica with inks by Julio Ferreira and colors by Marcelo Maiolo, Suicide Squad #1 goes on sale March 2 from DC Comics.
