The upcoming series finale of HBO's Succession promises to be comparable in length to a feature film, clocking in at approximately 90 minutes (i.e. one hour and 30 minutes).

"With Open Eyes" -- the 10th and final episode of Succession's fourth and final season -- is slated to air on HBO on Sunday, May 28. It is written by series creator Jesse Armstrong and directed by Mark Mylod. Succession's musical composer, Nicholas Britell, recently discussed the finale with Variety, saying, "It's 90 minutes... It's a huge episode -- like a movie." An HBO source subsequently confirmed to TVLine that the Succession finale wouldn't quite hit the hour and a half mark, but would come pretty close. Nevertheless, given the fact that HBO does not run commercials with its shows, it seems as though fans can expect a movie-like experience from Succession's last episode.

Of course, an extra-long finale for a prestige television series like Succession would not be unprecedented, especially when it comes to HBO. The 2019 series finale of Game of Thrones similarly had a feature-esque runtime of 80 minutes. While not quite as long, the series finale of Watchmen still had a meaty, 67-minute finale that same year. This is itself comparable to the 2007 series finale of The Sopranos, which came in at 62 minutes.

Succession Reaches Its Grand Finale on HBO

Succession initially premiered on HBO in 2018. The Emmy-winning black comedy-drama centers on the Roy family, owners of the fictional entertainment conglomerate Waystar Royco, as they vie for control of the company amid the declining health of their patriarch, Logan Roy. Succession features a stacked cast, including original Hannibal Lecter Brian Cox as the aforementioned Logan Roy, as well as Hiam Abbass (Blade Runner 2049) as Marcia Roy, Nicholas Braun (Sky High) as Greg Hirsch, Kieran Culkin (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) as Roman Roy and Matthew Macfadyen (Deadpool 3) as Tom Wambsgans, among others.

The show's fourth and final season premiered on HBO this past March, with six of its 10 episodes having aired at the time of writing. Succession Season 4, Episode 7, "Tailgate Party," is set to air this coming Sunday, May 7. Its official synopsis reads as follows: "Hoping to work the angles on the GoJo deal, Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and Roman ask Shiv (Sarah Snook) to invite a political insider to Logan's annual pre-election day party. Later, Connor (Alan Ruck) considers whether to adjust his ambitions after receiving intel from the Mencken team, while Kendall and Roman catch wind of a potentially fortuitous scandal."

New episodes of Succession Season 4 air Sundays on HBO. The series finale is scheduled for May 28.
