10 The Catbus Is Both Functional And Adorable (My Neighbor Totoro)

Catbus

The Catbus, which appears in My Neighbor Totoro, is a feline-esque creature that also serves as a bus to transport Mei, Satsuki, and Totoro. It resembles a furry bus with a cat head on the front, complete with bright head-light eyes and a huge grin.

The Catbus offers a fun mode of transportation, as shown by the wild, winding route it takes in the film. It would definitely beat out any of the themed and eccentric buses currently found in cities. Though, anyone with cat allergies should probably stay away.

9 Calcifer Is Loveable Despite Being A Demon (Howl's Moving Castle)

Calcifer sitting in his pile of firewood in the castle's hearth in Howl's Moving Castle.

Calcifer is the beloved fire demon found in Howl's Moving Castle. He has strong magical abilities and is linked to Howl after the two enter a mysterious contract together.

Calcifer is sassy, fun, and compassionate, despite being a demon. He has great lines, such as "Here's another curse for you- may all your bacon burn," and the things he can do with his magic are nothing less than spectacular. He would make an amazing sidekick or friend to anybody. Not to mention, having sentient fire just seems like it would be pretty cool.

8 The Soot Sprites Make Adorable Workers Or Houseguests (My Neighbor Totoro/Spirited Away)

Soot Sprites

The soot sprites, or susuwatari, are tiny spirits made of balls of soot. They appear in both My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. These tiny magical creatures seem to be mostly friendly, using squeaky noises to communicate as they complete tasks or lurk in the previously abandoned house.

7 Teto Would Be A Loyal Pet (Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind)

Teto from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

Teto is a fox-squirrel primarily found in Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (with a quick cameo appearance in Castle in the Sky) that accompanies Nausicaa. As his species implies, he's a small fantasy creature that resembles both a fox and a squirrel.

Despite his initial introduction as angry and wild, Teto quickly warms up to Nausicaa. He becomes a fierce, loyal companion. His cute appearance and loveable personality drew many fans in, and it's no surprise that many would love to have him as a pet of their own.

6 The Kodama Are Wholesome Creatures Of The Forest (Princess Mononoke)

Kodama

The kodama are tiny, odd-shaped creatures from Princess Mononoke that appear in the forest throughout the film. They don't appear to do much in terms of plot, so not much is known about them, but they are an indication that the forest is alive and healthy.

Based on this, it's assumed that the kodama are overall good creatures. Their connection to the forest would be pretty nice in our world, and even though they appear a bit scary at first, it's clear that they are good-natured spirits.

5 Ponyo's Magically Fun Personality Is Entertaining (Ponyo)

Ponyo

Ponyo, the main character of the movie Ponyo, is a goldfish who's the child of a sea-goddess and a human. And though she lives in the ocean, she wants to explore the human world, which is made easier when it becomes apparent that she's able to assume a human form with her magical abilities.

Ponyo is extremely cute with a fun personality, and it would be interesting to see her interact with the world more, whether as a goldfish or a magical human. Plus, she would get to enjoy a lot more ham.

3 The Otori-Sama Are Adorable Spirits (Spirited Away)

Otori Sama

While viewers of Spirited Away may not recognize the name Otori-Sama, they'll certainly remember them. The Otori-Sama are among the spirits that visit the bathhouse. Specifically, the ones that look like giant ducks or chicks.

While not much is known about their personality besides that they are connected to the deity Otori, it's hard to believe such adorable spirits could be capable of anything evil. They're shown happily relaxing in their bath and are too cute to not want them to exist outside of the film.

2 Jiji Is An Amazing Companion (Kiki's Delivery Service)

Jiji from Kiki's Delivery Service excitedly points to an image of a similar-looking black cat on a mug.

Jiji is Kiki's familiar black cat in Kiki's Delivery Service. While Jiji is undeniably a great character, it's interesting that both the personality and gender of Jiji changes depending on whether you're watching the Japanese or American version of the film.

Whether a protective female cat constantly trying to help Kiki or a sarcastic male cat that's a bit more wild, Jiji is an important character in the film. More than that, Jiji is a great character that anyone would love to have as their own companion.

1 The Forest Spirit Is A Great Protector (Princess Mononoke)

Forest Spirit

The Forest Spirit from Princess Mononoke, which is also known as Shishigami and Night-Walker, doesn't actively appear for most of the film, but still leaves a lasting impression. During the day, it appears as a deer with a human-esque face, but at night, it transforms into a giant human-esque creature.

This important deity is the god of life and death in the movie and has several magical abilities that are displayed throughout. It primarily watches over the forest, and it definitely wouldn't hurt to have something like it looking over nature in our world.
