There is no shortage of strong and powerful characters in fiction—whether it be the world's strongest hero, an undefeatable god, or even characters who can defeat others a snap of their fingers, the world of anime has it all.

While many of these heroes and villains prefer having many underlings working for them, some prefer doing things alone. This is either because they’re lone wolves or because they can’t trust other people with their plans or powers. And sometimes, anime characters can be so strong that they can't help but always defeat the enemies by themselves. Here are 10 anime characters who mostly go solo.

10 Light Yagami: He Treated Other People As Pawns Because He Didn't Trust Anyone (Death Note)

Strength isn’t always about physical prowess, something that Light Yagami proved effortlessly with his unparalleled intelligence. Even though he had Ryuk by his side, the shinigami was more of a neutral observer than a participant in his activities.

Everybody else, including Misa, was nothing but expendable pawns in Light’s grander scheme of making the world a better place to live in, which is why he always worked alone.

9 Clare: This Lone Wolf Always Fought Her Battles By Herself (Claymore)

Even though Clare had Raki by her side, he was an ordinary human incapable of fighting yoma. This is why Clare fought all her battles by herself, except when the Organization sent her on a mission with her other Claymore sisters.

The more Awakened Being she fought, the stronger this half-yoma became, something she wanted to kill the Awakened Being that killed her beloved Teresa.

8 Muzan: The Strongest Demon In The World Worked Alone Due To His Excessive Paranoia (Demon Slayer)

Despite being the strongest of his kind globally, Muzan was obsessed with becoming the "perfect" being. Over the years, this obsession turned into mistrust of other people, including demons, and it eventually spiraled into paranoia.

This is also the reason why he never allowed demons to work in groups. He was too afraid they would rebel against him, even though he was stronger than all of them combined.

7 Satoru Gojo: He Can Handle Cursed Spirits Easily Because Of His Domain Expansion (Jujutsu Kaisen)

Satoru is well aware of how powerful a sorcerer he really is, which is part of the reason why Yoshinobu continues to put up with his constant disrespect of the prevailing jujutsu traditions. He possesses vast amounts of cursed energy, with his strongest ability being his Doman Expansion.

Part of the reason he works alone is that he’s well aware of his strength, and that has made him into a somewhat arrogant person who believes he can handle everything on his own.

6 Izumi Nase: She May Be The Strongest Spirit World Warrior, But She Does Not Trust Anybody With Her Secret (Beyond The Boundary)

Even by Spirit World Warrior standards, she is a powerful warrior who can wield a spear well in battle and create glaciate barriers.

A yomu is shown to have almost taken over her body, something that she hides from everybody, which is also why she prefers doing everything alone and in secret, even if it means risking her relationship with her brother Hiroomi.

5 Sebastian: He's The Most Powerful Demon In The Series Who Trained To Become Extremely Strong (Black Butler)

As a demon, Sebastian is shown to be excessively powerful. As a result of his abilities and the fact that almost nothing on earth can kill him, he is shown to be a cocky and arrogant character—although this is backed up by the fact that he began weakly and trained to become strong in the manga.

He always completes Ciel’s mission alone and never asks for help—except for in Black Butler: Book of Atlantic when he had no choice but to pair with Grell and Ronald Knox because Undertaker is known as the strongest Grim Reaper in the series.

4 Shiro: Her Alternate Identity Was A Secret From Almost Everybody (Deadman Wonderland)

Due to inhumane experiments carried out on her, Shiro became the first Deadman, which only a few people knew. Her alternate identity created a trail of blood wherever it went, and it was the reason Ganta was falsely accused of killing his classmates, due to which he was sentenced to prison.

Another reason why nobody can recognize her is because of the way she presents herself as a Deadman—a well-built man who’s covered from head to toe.

3 Cheng Hua: His Strength Ensured That Not Even The Gods Crossed His Path (Heaven’s Official Blessing)

Cheng Hua challenged 35 heavenly officials to a one-on-one match, and after defeating 33 in a row, the final two contenders backed out of fear.

Stories of his strength, power, and cruelty spread not only across the heavenly realm but the demon and human realms. This proved that this Devastation class Demon does not need anybody by his side.

2 Mumei: She Was Always Sent Out On Solo Missions To Destroy The Kabane (Kabaneri Of The Iron Fortress)

Ever since her childhood, Mumei was brainwashed by Biba that only the strong survive, due to which she became obsessed with killing as many kabane (zombies) as she could before she could even hit puberty.

She hated asking for help because, in her eyes, help meant failing as an assassin, something she wasn’t prepared to deal with because she was acutely aware of how cruel and sadistic Biba could be towards his soldiers.

1 Godzilla: This Apex Predator Singlehandedly Destroyed All Of Humanity (Godzilla: Planet Of The Monsters)

Godzilla, Planet of the Monsters 5

One fine day, this monstrous creature appeared on earth without any warning, and within a matter of a few hours, established his supremacy on the planet. Even help from two superior alien races proved futile since even with their advanced technologies, Godzilla beat them all.

He was so quick, efficient, and ruthless that by the time a small number of humans escaped aboard a spaceship, the monster had managed to wipe out all of humanity from the Earth.
