The Legion of Super-Heroes is a team that has some real powerhouses on it. After all, Superboy and Supergirl were on the team. Add to that several members that boast strength rivaling Kryptonian strength, and this a team that a villain would need a plan to defeat instead of barging in for a straight fight.

What follows is a ranking of the strongest members of the Legion. Except where applicable, versions from different versions of the Legion are not counted. This should also not be considered a list of the most powerful members, as someone like Element Lad or Saturn Girl rank very high on such a scale, but aren't that strong physically. In some cases, resources like Mayfair Games 2995 Sourcebook were used. It was co-written by Legion writers Tom & Mary Bierbaum.

10 Blok

Blok is of the most good-natured Legionnaires. He's also one of the most imposing, being so massive that he needed three Legion flight rings to enable him to fly. His mass also brought with it a level of super-strength that rivaled most other Legionnaires. His strength was never demonstrated to be in the level of the Kryptonians or Daxamites. He was always included whenever raw power was needed on a mission, but never when Mon-El or Ultra Boy was available.

9 Timber Wolf

Timebr Wolf fighting enemies.

Brin Londo is more known for his feral nature than his strength. However, in lack of Mon-El or Ultra Boy, the Legion tends to include Timber Wolf on a mission for muscle. Adding his extraordinary agility to his strength makes for a valuable addition to the team.

Timber Wolf has had the most varied appearance of almost any Legionnaire this side of Chameleon Boy. The most extreme came in the "Five Years Later" Legion where he had mutated into a large, inarticulate creature called Furball. He also evolved into a form that saw him transplanted into the 20th century for his limited series.

8 Monstress

Monstress wouldn't place so high on the list if it weren't for the time she lifted a Legion cruiser. Aside from a cameo in Justice League United, she was only ever in the reboot Legion of the 1990s and 2000s. She was very much the spoiled girl that she was before her transformation, never letting her monstrous appearance take her joy and feminity.

She never seemed to cut loose until faced with the brutality unleashed in Legion Lost. She lost a lot of innocence there, and it seemed almost poetic that her murder might have been the most tragic part of that story. In a moment where he could no longer remember his Legion friends, Jan Arrah destroyed her as she cried at his feet.

7 Wildfire

Most of Wildfire's unique abilities overshadow the fact that he's considered one of the Legion's strongest members. In training, he could give Ultra Boy and Mon-El a real workout. While his containment suits don't have all of the abilities of his first suit, it does retain a level of super-strength that makes him perfect for missions where power is needed.

It might be due to the flashy energy powers his suit gives him that people forget how physically strong Wildfire is. In recent years, we've seen writers rely more on his energy abilities and less on other powers that he shares with other Legionnaires.

6 Ultra Boy

Ultra Boy could seem like a joke if he didn't pack so much power. He has all of Superboy's powers, but he can only use one at a time. Nevertheless, on a scale ranking super-strength, he falls right below Mon-El and Superboy. Over the years, Ultra Boy became so adept at using his powers that his limitation didn't seem to matter.

Legion equipment like his flight ring gave him ways to use his powers without having to worry about the consequences of switching. in the "Five Years Later" and threeboot Legions, Ultra Boy became the heavy hitter that he could always have been.

5 Star Boy (Rebooted Legion)

There was a brief time in the Silver Age—one issue, actually—where Star Boy demonstrated powers as great as, if not greater than, Superboy. When the Legion was rebooted, the creative team honored that almost-forgotten past by giving him those powers.

Why this version is singled out is that of yet, only he has had super-strength for more than an issue. His threeboot counterpart didn't demonstrate it and didn't have invulnerability. We've yet to see if the newest version of Star Boy ranks as high on the list of strongest Legionnaires.

4 Supergirl

A lot of people may forget that Supergirl was a Legionnaire. She was a member and even shared top billing with the team for a couple of years. In the original Legion, she shared a relationship with Brainiac 5 that is still a favorite pairing for fans.

When she was with the threeboot Legion, she became a powerhouse, but quickly integrated with the team. She even was elected Leader before Brainiac 5 found the proper place to re-insert her in the 21st century. She created a new dynamic and proved to be an addition and not simply a solution to every problem.

3 Laurel Gand / Andromeda

Many would just consider Laurel Gand to be a rip-off of Supergirl that Keith Giffen and the Bierbaums used when they didn't have access to anything Superboy-related. However, she persisted in the reboot, but she never really gained enough of a foothold to be extremely visible on the team.

She ranks above Supergirl due to her lack of vulnerability to Kryptonite. She used a lead serum to nullify her Daxamite weakness to lead, which makes her edge out her Kryptonian counterpart.

2 Superboy

This entry includes all of the versions of Superboy, including Conner Kent and Jonathan Kent. Otherwise, the list gets very static with what are essentially three characters that serve the same function in their respective Legions and never crossed paths.

If we were to put Superman up against Mon-El, then he would probably edge him out, but we're talking about Superboy here. Throwing in weakness to Kryptonite, and the top spot on the list has to go to "Superboy's big brother."

1 Mon-El

As a Daxamite, Mon-El has all of Superboy's powers with one difference: he has no vulnerability to Kryptonite. Granted, he has a vulnerability to lead, but, thanks to the Legion's anti-lead serum, that's not an issue for him. He was almost included in a mission if he could be included. That's how powerful he is.

For a long time, Mon-El was only really limited due to some emotional instability caused by spending a thousand years in the Phantom Zone. This was the influence of another psyche in his mind. After it was removed, he became much more confident and formidable. Without it, it was almost like having Superman in the Legion.
