Doctor Fate's big screen debut in Black Adam has put more spotlight on the character than ever before. Fate debuted back in the Golden Age comics, joining the Justice Society and using his magic to defend the world against all manner of villain. Over the years, Fate has been all over the DC Universe, joining multiple teams, and various heroes have worn the Helmet of Fate, wielding the sorcerous might of Nabu.

Fate is superlatively powerful, with few beings able to defeat him, regardless of who is wearing the Helmet. Marvel's heroes can be very formidable, but even the strongest will lose to Doctor Fate.

10 Iron Man Won't Last Long Against Fate

Marvel Comics' Iron Man from the Armor Wars comic

Iron Man is an accomplished hero and has faced down many enemies. His armor is quite formidable, and he's created multiple versions and upgrades for every threat imaginable. His greatest attribute has always been his mind. Iron Man can do more with less when he needs, figuring out a way to triumph against incredible odds. It's a great skill that won't matter in the slightest against Fate.

The easiest way to stop Iron Man is to stop the armor. For many, this would be difficult, but the armor isn't lasting long against a magic user empowered by a Lord of Order. Fate has just about infinite ways of taking it away, and at that point, it's just a really smart naked rich guy against a fully-powered Doctor Fate. That's an easy fight.

9 Invisible Woman's Titanic Power Won't Save Her

Marvel Comics' Invisible Woman deflecting attacks

Invisible Woman is the most powerful member of the Fantastic Four, and it's not even close. Her powers make her an amazing infiltrator and give her offensive and defensive options far exceeding her teammates. She's very versatile, which would help her in a battle against Fate, but it would by no means win it for her.

Sue Storm's invisibility is useless against Fate, which makes this a shooting war. Both of them can shield themselves, so it's basically a stalemate for a while. However, Invisible Woman's powers, as great as they are, don't give her the options Fate's do. Fate can mess with her mind, get her to drop her shield, and quickly take her down.

8 Black Bolt's Greatest Power Can't Do Much Against Fate

Blackagar Boltagon, aka Black Bolt, his fork glowing with energy In Marvel Comics

Black Bolt's dual status as the king of the Inhumans and the most powerful member of the race has afforded him high stature in the Marvel Universe. He's stood toe to toe with Thanos and battled the deadliest threats imaginable. Bolt's voice is his most dangerous weapon, but it's not all he has. For all his power, he's still going to fall to Doctor Fate.

Bolt would have a chance if he screamed right off the bat, but he's always been one to feel an enemy out first. That's not the way to beat Fate, as the longer the fight goes on, the harder he's going to get to beat. Fate's shields can take all of Bolt's shots, and he can easily overpower the Inhuman monarch with his magic.

7 Silver Surfer's Might Would Fall Short Against Doctor Fate

Marvel Comics' Silver Surfer flying forward yelling

Silver Surfer is Marvel's most powerful cosmic hero, the Power Cosmic giving him a wide variety of abilities. Few enemies short of cosmic beings can challenge the Sentinel of the Spaceways. He can control cosmic energies, has Hulk-level strength and durability, can fly at superluminal speeds, and manipulate matter. However, he has weaknesses Fate can exploit.

Fate is powered by Nabu, who is basically a cosmic being. So, that gives Fate the power advantage he needs. In addition, Silver Surfer has proven weak to mental attacks. That gives Fate the perfect strategy to use against him, shredding his mind before the Power Cosmic does too much damage.

6 Magic Trumps Hercules' Strength

Marvel's Incredible Hercules Casino Underworld 1

Hercules is Marvel's strongest demigod. The Prince of Power has been fighting evil for millennia, joining the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy in the modern age. Hercules is a ridiculously strong fighter and has proven his power in battle many times over. Hercules is a challenge for most heroes, but Fate wouldn't have that much of a problem with him.

Hercules is no slouch, but he's pretty one-dimensional. Fate can easily stay out of his way or shield himself from the son of Zeus' blows. With no way to get any offense in, Hercules can't win. Fate can just rain magical pain down on him until he falls.

5 Thor Will Learn A Thing Or Two From Fate

Marvel Comics' Thor illuminates using his hammer

Thor is Marvel's premiere warrior. The God of Thunder has anchored the Avengers for years, his power and skill making him a clutch member of the team. Between his years of experience, sheer brute strength, and the power of Mjolnir, many foes have learned the folly of standing against Thor. Fate is a different story, though.

Fate and Nabu work well together. One of them will quickly realize that Mjolnir is the key to Thor. Parting it from him is difficult, but not impossible, especially with the power of Nabu. With Mjolnir gone, Fate can unload on Asgard's favorite son, putting him down before he knew what hit him.

4 Jean Grey's Mental Might Won't Be Enough

Marvel Comics' jean grey summons her power in axe judgement day

The X-Men's Omega class mutants are formidable, with Jean Grey rising to the top of the list. Her combination of telepathy and telekinesis makes her a multi-faceted threat that can affect minds and pulverize mountains. Underestimating Jean is often the last mistake enemies make, but it won't be a problem for Fate.

Battling Fate is going to be a twofold contest for Jean Grey. Nabu can protect Fate's mind from Grey's telepathy while also going on the attack. Fate's shields can protect against Grey's telekinesis while he finds a spell to work against her. With Nabu's help, Fate can tailor his attack to Grey's weaknesses and end the battle.

3 Scarlet Witch Is A Glass Cannon

John Buscema's Scarlet Witch looks forward from Marvel Comics

Scarlet Witch is the Avengers' magic specialist, helping the team defeat the greatest threats. In recent years, her reality-altering powers have come to the fore, making her even more dangerous in battle. She has a variety of powers, but she is also rather weak to physical and mental attacks. That's going to give Fate the time he needs to win.

Scarlet Witch is powerful, but she doesn't go all out right away. That will be her downfall. Fate and Nabu know much more magic than she does and would sense how powerful she is. Resorting to mental attacks would be the best bet to start, distracting her and then overwhelming her with spells. Keeping her on the defensive is key, and it will get Fate the win.

2 Hulk Doesn't Stand A Chance Against Fate

Ryan Ottley's cover for Marvel Comics' Hulk #1 written by Donny Cates.

Hulk stands tall among Marvel's most violent heroes. The Hulk is basically the scariest person on Earth because no one knows what he's going to do next. His infinite strength potential is matched by the bottomless well of rage that fuels it. He's defeated the most powerful heroes and villains on Earth, but he wouldn't last long against Fate.

Fate wouldn't take it easy on what would just be a giant rage monster to him. He has way too many options for dealing with the Hulk, from messing with his mind and pacifying him to draining his gamma energy to teleporting him to Pluto.

1 Doctor Strange Can't Hang With Doctor Fate

Doctor Strange prepares to cast a magic spell in Marvel Comics' New Avengers #34

Doctor Strange quickly rose to top of the list of Sorcerers Supreme. Strange earned his appellation as the master of the mystic arts, facing off against and defeating the greatest threats to creation ever. He's intelligent and powerful, a combination that has won him many battles. However, he's not on Fate's level.

Fate has every advantage over Strange. He has access to more magical knowledge whenever he needs it and greater power. Strange has beaten enemies like him before, but Fate isn't some power-hungry monster. He's a calculating and powerful sorcerer. With his advantages, Doctor Fate would destroy Doctor Strange.
